How to Use iPhone 3G as iTouch?

I upgraded to the 3GS and very happy with it. Now, not wanting to throw away the ol 3G, I would like to use my old 3G as an iTouch... Don't need the ATT phone service, just the wifi.

But the last time I sync'd the old 3G with the PC, it shut down, and it demanded I install a sim card. What do I do?

Windows XP

In getting your new 3GS, it should of come with a SIM already. And by activating it, that SIM goes live and it deactivated the one in your old one (if you swapped SIMs that was a mistake).
Thus your old iPhone should still have the SIM in it and it will be deactivated from your contract/service, but because it is in there, you are free to upgrade the phone with new updates.

I am not allowed to mention the word about how to do this. But it start's with J. Google it 😉

There is zero need for that. An old iPhone with valid sim card in it but unactivated (no contract) is perfectly fine to use an old iPhone as a Touch. My daughter is using my old one like this as I type. If I had the link, there is even a support document posted about this from Apple.

There is no magic to it (as long as you didn't mess with the SIM cards with your new and old phone as there was no need to).
