Sony Handycam and Easy Setup

I had this camcorder connected to my Imac via firewire and captured dozens of Digital 8 footage around December. Now, for some reason, I am unable to use Easy Setup and get FCE to connect to it anymore. I get the "unable to connect to external devices error, etc" no matter which option I select.

The camera is turned on and connections are good....I even went through the process of clearing out all the FCE folder files to restore FCE to it's original settings...

Help please

imac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Imac OS X version 10.5.7
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Sony Handycam DCR-TRV460 NTSC connected via firewire to USB port
FCE HD version 3.5.1
Quicktime version 7.6.2

Not sure what you mean by media settings.....as far as FCE settings, I previously used DV-NTSC DV Converter in the Easy setup and FCE found my camera and I was able to capture footage.

The spec: http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/sony-handycam-dcr-trv460/4507-6500_7- 30671273.html shows that there is 1394 port on the camcorder, so you should be able to use firewire port on your imac. I am not sure what MPEG EX format is, so you may need to convert via Streamclip of import into iMovie. USB is no way electrically or otherwise compatible with firewire. When they say DV input, they generally mean FireWire, iLink, IEEE 1394 - same thing:http://hometheater.about.com/od/hometheaterdoityourself/ig/Home-Theater-Connecti on-Photo-/DV-Connection-.htm .

If you already imported footage from the camcorder in the past, just connect via FireWire on both ends and import using one of the DV settings in the "Easy Setup". The MPEG EX name confused me, since DV stream is not one of the MPEGs, (HDV is MPEG2) but the camcorder manufacturers are always sloppy with the non-standard marketing terms they use, and people don't know what it means when they try to match it to other devices, like PCs and editors, that do use industry standard terms.
