screenshot problems

I just started having trouble with my screenshots. When I press shift command 4( and with 3 too) I get a blank (blue) screen with a line running through it as my image. I remember having this issue a long time ago with another computer (and I might have had to upgrade an app like adobe or something like that that eventually fixed the issue) but this is the first time with my new Macbook. Any ideas?
