iphone glass screen not flush with chrome bezel - can genius bar fix this?

hey guys, just got a brand new iphone 3GS. everythings great, except i noticed that the glass screen is not flush with the chrome bezel on one corner, exposing a very sharp edge that can be potentially dangerous. seems like a pretty small issue, and i have heard that the genius bar can actually replace glass screens...so does anyone know if they are also able to just readjust my screen so its even and flush with the chrome bezel? has anyone ever tried this before, and if so, what happened?

thanks!

thanks for the responses. it seems strange that they wouldnt even offer to fix the problem since they cant replace it. since they are able to replace screens...shouldnt it be not too difficult to readjust the screen as well? im going to try to go into an apple store today to figure it out. nobody has tried getting this fixed, as opposed to replaced, yet?

I know what your talking about. I got my iPhone 2 weeks ago and noticed the same thing. It's pretty sharp and can cut you if not handled properly. On mines the glass is uneven where the battery meter is (the top right hand corner) I thought about taking it to the Genius bar but I'll probably wait to see if it progresses because I would assume that's considered a manufacturing defect.

I had 4 iPhone 3GS replaced due to certain problems...but all of them had the glass creen not flushed...

I actually pointed this out to one of the Genius and he said a lot of iPhone 3G and 3GS are like that cause of how the components inside sits in the plastic case...some barely noticible but if you run your fingers through it you can tell...some just looking at it you can see it slightly raised.

Like I said Ive been on 4 replacemnet because of cracks, battery issue etc. the repalcesments I had were 2 from OEM boxes nd 2 from Barnd new iPhone Boxes. The glass issue is the only one that didnt qualify for replacement.

This issue bothers me too...

I do believe the Genius Bar can replace screens. However, I don't believe that it will fix this problem. It's the internal support for the screen that's causing the problem.

I have this problem on a brand new iPhone 3GS (less than 24 hours of ownership). It was the first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box, and is very annoying. It scratches my ear when I'm on the phone, and is quite uncomfortable.

It's worth noting for others reading this thread that this is my second iPhone, which is the replacement for the first iPhone, that had exactly the same problem (hence the need to replace it). The folks at the Apple store said "they could open 10 boxes, and they all could have this problem," however they weren't going to open 10 boxes for me because they apparently can't open them before they are sold.

For a $299 subsidized, or a $699 no contract phone, I expect the device to be manufactured correctly, and am very disappointed. I'm considering an all-out return of the device, and cancellation of the contract, but it's unclear what all of the options are. Does anyone know what else can be done?

I have the same problem on my new 3GS that I bought from Best Buy going on two weeks now. I actually didn't notice the problem until the beginning of this week, perhaps mine is more unnoticable then others...I noticed it one night when I was running my fingers around the chrome. Mine is not flush on the top and most of the right side (I would say from the top right, half way down the right side. The rest of the right side (bottom) and the bottom and the left of the phone is fine.

Like others have said most of these phones are never flush all the way around perfectly...even on my original iPhone it was not perfectly flush all the way around. Anyways pop it in a case and it will never bother you. I was going to exchange mine at Best Buy but realized the above and didn't feel like making a fool of myself by complaining about something that they would probably laugh at me about complaining about in the first place. Not much you can do.

But yeah Apple is starting to get somewhat disappointing. They claim to be perfect in everything they do but they are clearly not, they are getting sloppy with making things these days big time. A 700.00 phone shouldn't have this kind of problem, whether you are paying full price or the reduced price with AT&T the phone is still the same price when it comes to the real price of it.

P.S. Maybe this will help...if you do a google search on this subject you will find hundreds of forums all over the net where people are complaining about the same thing. Apparently this is a common/normal manufacturing issue. Again get a case and you'll never notice it again as most cases cover the chrome ring around the screen.
