The only logic related issue with the big knob is how to set up logic for sensible monitoring. That totally depends on your needs however. I use the big knob too and have set it up to provide a headphone mix, a main mix and two auxiliary mixes that are switchable for comparison or reference. That means my default song template comes with a number of audio channels set up to target the different inputs of the big knob. There are endless possibilities, just try and see what works for you.

Hey Claye,

I must admit I have enough outputs to be able to creatively think about what to do with them. I have a MotU PCI424 setup with 2 24i/o and 2 24i units connected. That makes 96 ins and 48 outs. I decided to go this way in order to be able to work without patchbays and a lot of external equipment that I regularly use. I also use a very solid master word clock to synchronize to, the resulting sound quality is absolutely great for my needs.

So my BigKnob setup looks roughly like that: My logic main outs go to the BK DAW input. The alternative switchable headphone and studio mix is fed by pre fader sends from the audio channels. The studio outs go to a headphone amp in my recording chamber. (I also use a number of MotU outputs for headphone submixes that go directly to the HP amps if there's a need for it.) Tape A/B are connected to individual audio tracks where I have reference mixes of the genre that I use or a bounce of an earlier mixdown for comparison. Phono is unused currently. The monitor outs A and B go to a room calibration box and then to the two pairs of monitors. Monitor out C goes to the subwoofer so that it is switchable.

I really love this setup. It's the best I've had yet for listening during a mixing and recording session. It even makes the control room section that cubase comes with redundant, but I'd still love to see a similar feature in Logic. Anyway, I can really recommend the BigKnob, it's greatly versatile and laid out very sensibly.

Cheers,

Jazz
