Can a Mac join a Windows workgroup?

Can a Mac join a Windows workgroup? Each area at work has a Windows workgroup name, incl. mine, assigned to it. Can I make my two Leopard iMacs, within my assigned workgroup, show up there? I can see the Macs in the network view but I can't get them to appear within my assigned workgroup. Any help?

Go to the Advanced settings for the Network interface (Ethernet, or Airport) and set the Workgroup on the WINS tab.

If it doesn't stick, duplicate the Automatic location, change to the duplicate, and get rid of the old. You can rename the duplicate back to Automatic.

excellent. I have been struggling with this for several days with a windows network that suddenly stopped seeing my MacPro. Some upgrade in the software on one or other operating system triggered the problem, and I could not change the workbook designation. I just followed your advice, created an duplicate location and changes the workbook designation, deleted the original Automatic location, and it worked like a charm. Thanks.
