Restored ipod, now won't show in itunes

I had to restore my ipod, which I thought I did, and now it will not show in itunes.

It is detected on my computer, and the files are erased on the ipod, but all that happens is it flashes "Do Not Disconnect" the entire time it is hooked up to the computer.

Please help.

Some mundane suggestions:

Did you try to uninstall-reinstall routine of iTunes?
Do you connect the iPod after opening the iTunes or before? I suggest that you do it after opening the iTunes.
(You have not mentioned, but if you are using XP then) try to see whether WMP is showing the iPod. In that case you know that the problem is with the iTunes.
Try using the Diagnostic mode in iTunes and see what troubles it throws up.
