Where does the fan vent?

I have seen other posts saying not to have your laptop on fabric or on your lap but why?? I have had other laptops where this would be blocking the vent for the fan but I see no vent on my MacBook where is it venting and why shouldn't I have my LAPtop on my LAP? ;P thx

Out the back by your display hinge. You can use the laptop on your lap, just make sure you don't block that area with a blanket or pillow.

I would suggest installing Hardware Monitor, smcFanControl or iStat Pro to monitor your your computer's temps.
