notation in Score Editor

In the Score Editor, I am trying to copy notes by following the directions: select note, hold down the Option key while dragging to desired location and pitch, but when I release the mouse, the note has been dragged, not copied, leaving a hole where I brought it from! Is there something else I need to know? What's even more curious, the help tag says "Copy", not "Drag", while I'm doing this. This is getting really frustrating, I could be DONE with my piece but I'm still messing around with getting things to work the way they're supposed to.
