Foot Control to Start/Stop Recording??

Does anyone know if Garageband can be remotely controlled to start and stop recording? Isn't there some sort of midi foot control pedal that allows this? If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to hear!

This was a question I asked a long time ago. I never really got a good answer. I did get some links to some products that could be programed to work like a punch-in/out control. But, I didn't really like that as a solution.

This is one of the things I was pointed to. I guess you can program it to do all sorts of things, maybe even as a punch-in/out control for GarageBand.

Could you provide a link to the iControl? There seems to be several products out there with that name. I have the Powermate however I haven't set it up to do that because I'd need to buy a 50' cable or so. I was thinking more along the lines of footswitches like ones you have for amps. You can just use a 1/4" cable with them. Maybe wishful thinking but I'm sure my needs are not rare, it is a standard practice in regular recording to have a punch in/out control pedal. I'm sure somewhere there's something - all this software and we have to be sitting right in front of the computer the whole time?

The iControl is a control surface that controls many things in GarageBand. However, I don't think it could be used for a remote control for punching in/out.

I agree. We need some kind of remote start/stop "peddle" type controller. I just ordered the PowerMate from Griffin. I don't need 50' of cabling, just about 5' or so. Should be perfect for me. I dunno about setting it on the floor and stomping on it though 🙂

The iControl does look cool! However Garageband isn't the only program I use for recording so in my case I can't justify it. But if I was solely using Garageband I'd get this in a heartbeat. Thanks for the heads up on this. I'll keep looking around and if I come up with something more along what I'm looking for I'll post it here.

I wanted to reply to this because I've discovered an amazing device that does exactly what I've wanted. I'm not sure if it supports Garageband yet but I think its cool enough to look:

This product by Frontier Design, called Tranzport, is wireless and has all the functions I think anyone could ever need. Anyone have any experience with this device??? DOES it work with Garageband? I'm happy it works with Digital Performer!
