IMac 20'' + Windows 7 RTM Pro = Headphones problem

Hi Everyone,

I just installed Windows 7 32 bit RTM on my IMac using Boot Camp 2.0.
Everything is great but I cannot hear anything from headphones.
Realtek 230 driver (newest Audio driver version number: 6.0.1.5911, Audio codec ALC885) recognize them as line in instead of headphones :/ there is also issue with muting speakers I cannot mute central speaker only left and right are muted.
Is there any possibility to resolve that issue before the new version of the driver ?

Before Win 7 I was using Vista without any problems.

The strange fact, is that I have another Imac at work, few months older than this one at home, and just using the basic Bootcamp driver included in Snow Leopard all the audio (mic and speaker) works well. In this Imac mic does not work and audio quality is very poor. (tried with Bootcamp driver and Realtek 2.33 and 2.34 with same results).

I discover that the issue with the sound and Mic is related to iMac 8.1
Latest iMac 9.1 work well. To check the release of your mac just go to About this Mac (in Mac OS) and select "More info".
I just swap an hard disk with data and setting from 8.1 where sound does not work well to a 9.1 and all work well even with Bootcamp (Snow Leopard) included driver.
I'm even not sure is a Realtek issue but could be a "intel chipset" issue, when installing bootcamp, in fact the connector (in, out, at) of the realtek in iMac 8.1 are wrong, so I believe is more an issue with the basic chipset driver included in Bootcamp 3.0 for iMac 8.1 that does not identify well the hw configuration - but I'm not sure about this sentence.
I hope too they will fix it soon.

What you're saying makes sense. I've noticed when plugging headphones into the jack that I get an "Line In" tab appear in the Realtek Manager. I get no reaction when I plug the headphones into the Line In port.

With or without headphones plugged into the headphone port the audio works fine on the system with the built in speakers, but headphones fail to work.

I have a lab of iMac 8.1's, all with the issue and unfortunately OSX doesn't run Autodesk!

Apple please help us out on this one!

Thanks for that!

I just checked my serial number on my iMac's and they're early 08 models. This model is listed as iMac8,1 in the "About this Mac" menu. Makes sense I suppose. Based on the link you posted I can only hope Apple is aware of this issue and will release the proper fix in the newest Bootcamp release as these models look like they will be supported for windows 7 by apple.

Dear friends,
I own a 20 Imac december 2008 and I am experiencing the same problems with the audio using Windows 7 Ultimate. I installed it using bootcamp 3.0 and the audio is really low but, most of all, the headphones don't work (seems they are not recognized by the realtek audio drivers). The funny part is that if I remove the realtek drivers Windows automatically installs the microsoft generic audio drivers where everything looks fine (the headphones are finally recognized when I plug them in) but I don't get any sounds neither from the internal speakers or the headphones.
Since I use Skype a lot do you think it will be possible to find a solution for the headphones or I have to go back to Vista (where everything worked??
Sorry for my poor english
Ciao

Based on my experience and a lot of different test, until now there is no way to have the audio of an imac 8.1 works. I believe this is a bug in the chipset (bootcamp driver) that mis-recognize the audio config, even if recognize the correct realtek board. I have also tried the updated version of realtek driver (2.34 was my last test). Maybe an update of the realtek driver may help, but I believe we must wait for apple to build a Bootcamp driver update to have the iMac 8.1 at full features.

P.S.

Let's hope that this bootcamp update for the 8.1 Imac will happen soon!!! Tomorrow I will tray to call the italian Apple customer service asking about this problem. Maybe If all the owners of the 8.1 Imac call/write to Apple pointing at this problem may be it will be fixed sooner....I would hate to go back to Vista just because the headphones don't work.
