Does AppleCare work in China?

Simple version: Does AppleCare work in China?

Detailed version: I have several Macs and iPhones. All bought in US with AppleCare. I want to know if I move to China, will the products still be covered by AppleCare?

Many thanks,
Nick

The warranty, and therefore Applecare, for the iphone is good only in the country of purchase.

You can look this up on Apples website but, from the website:

"The AppleCare Protection Plan is a uniquely integrated service and support solution that extends the complimentary coverage on your Mac to three years from the computer’s purchase date. This comprehensive plan includes expert telephone technical support, global repair coverage"

No. iPhone warranty coverage (and thus AppleCare for the iPhone) is limited to the country of purchase. Presumably, because the vast majority of warranty service is simple replacement of the iPhone, and it's not feasible for every facility to have a worldwide assortment of carrier-locked phones, plus the fact that Apple's arrangements with certain carriers are such that the carrier provides service, not Apple.

But, the bottom line is to obtain iPhone service you must do that in the country of purchase, whereas coverage on other Apple products (computers, iPods) is worldwide regardless of where purchased.

Great! That makes a lot of sense! So at least I don't need to worry about my macs 😀

My British-O2 iphone just got serviced, while my American-AT&T iphone 3G got a replacement right away...

How about using the mailing repair service? e.g. sending the faulty iphone from China to US to get repaired, then shipped back to China. Is it feasible for AppleCare?

Thanks!

No. Apple will not accept return of an iPhone for repair without having issued an RMA for the unit and they will almost certainly will not do so for return of the iPhone from outside of it's country of origin. Apple certainly will not ship the iPhone to a different country than the country of purchase. You would have to yourself ship the iPhone to someone (relative or friend) in the US and have them send the iPhone to Apple, get it back, and then ship it back to you.

Note as well that a US iPhone is carrier-locked to AT&T and cannot be used with any other carrier unless you hack the iPhone which usually will void the warranty.

Applecare will (allegedly) work in China, but the actual service *****.

They outsource to 3rd parties, and the 3rd parties do whatever the **** they want.
So, if you have issues, you'll be having fun and games with the "authorized" support vendors.

Expect weeks delays for parts, charges that shouldn't be charged. Parts mysteriously going missing, or getting swapped out etc.

I've had all of the above happen to myself, and other clients.

Thats for Shanghai though, Beijing might be better.

If I was you, I'd hope that nothing broke, or you are in for a world of hurt.
