Guitarists! GB + Boss DR-5 = Winning Combination

Hey Fellow Guitarists,

Something I discovered over the weekend and wanted to share...

If you are like me, you learned how to play guitar first, then went into electronic music. To use GB, I have a little Korg keyboard I use as a MIDI controller. It works perfectly, but it does take a long time because I always think in terms of a fretboard, then I have to translate that into black and white keys.

I also have a little Boss DR-5 drum machine. I plugged that into my MIDI port and it works flawlessly as a controller with GB!

The Boss DR-5 "Dr. Rhythm Section" is a little drum machine Boss made a few years back, specifically with guitarists in mind. THE KEYS ARE LAID OUT LIKE A FRETBOARD! I know exactly where everything is and it has made recording a lot easier.

The bad news is that Boss stopped making these a few years ago, but you can still find them relatively cheap on eBay. Here is the Boss page about the product:

It also has a built in drum machine, synth, and a 4 track sequencer. The drums sounds are just ok, but many of the synth sounds are nice. I like to take it with me when I travel...it's almost like a musical sketchpad.

That's all...I just wanted to tell other guitarists about an alternative MIDI controller for use with GB.

That's pretty cool. I usually start with a simple drum loop (software instrument) and use it as a click track, then I edit it to fit my song in the editor. I find this really easy to do and get pretty good results. And best of all, no additional external stuff is needed. If you know how to program a drum machine, then you can adapt to the editor quite easily. The plus is that you get to create your drum parts one measure at a time with your instruments right there to hear it real time as you go.

I have the DR 670, I tried this but it doesnt seem to work. I was hoping to use the DR 670 as the main drum kit generator, but I cant seem to find a way to syn the midi capabilities with GB, all I can do it use GBs software instrument kits and get its sounds, not the sounds of the DR 670, is there any way to do this. I like the DR 670s sequencing, its a lot easier than using the note editor.
