5 year old 1.8 g5. One processor was removed by Mac tech last winter - dead and at this age, not worth replacing. Also replaced power supply then. So it's running on a single processor - or was.

I went on 10 day vacation. Left it running to pull email off ISP server. Safari page with map was also left open. Came home to bouncing update icon. Read a few emails, did a bit of surfing, with no problems; then did the download for what I recall was a Safari and Leopard update.

20 minutes later I found it was shut down instead of restart. Tried to restart. Got start up sound and apple gray screen with cranking gear for about 10-15 seconds. I can hear either fans running or hd sounds. Then it shuts down with a click, led is off. Can't get drive door to open via keyboard during that interval.

I've removed all peripherals except kbd. Many tries later same symptoms. Tried a Control-option-P-R Start up. Still shuts down in 10-15 seconds.

g5, Mac OS X (10.5.7)
