Pairing ipod touch to iphone

Why is it so difficult to pair my ipod touch 2nd gen with my wife's iphone 3g using Bluetooth. We have both updated to O.S 3 but I constantly get the 'now discoverable' page and nothing else happens. I downloaded an App called Photoshare in the hope that I could get it to work so that my wife could send me some pictures, but no luck there. Is there something that I'm not aware of???

Because they are not designed to be paired together.

Bluetooth in the iPod touch is limited to Stereo headphones and peer-to-peer gaming, and in addition Bluetooth in the iPhone can be used for internet tethering.

And to add on to Julia, the app you want needs to have peer-to-peer capabilities. I suggest something like Bump. Just look on the App Store.

According to the Application Description in the App Store - "All you need to do is connect both devices to the same Wireless Network.."

This is NOT bluetooth, it is wi-fi.

And like roaminggnome said, there is bluetooth peer-to-peer and then there is connecting over the same wifi network.
