How to view animated gif files?

When I remember correctly you need the source to of the animated gif file to to see .. play it again.

Try opening the file with Safari.

yeah like malcom said, just drop the file on Safari or Firefox, your browser will show the animation

It will also run in TextEdit.

Really? What's the secret? I tried using the Open dialog box and also drag 'n drop onto the TextEdit icon. But all either got me was an unhelpful view of the binary code for the gif. I ask because I keep looking for an easy way to see the animation--I have animated gifs turned off in both Firefox and Safari, since 99% of the time they just drive me nuts, which means in order to view that 1 in a 100 (actually more like 1 in 10000) animation I would like to see I have to launch Opera. 😉

Just open TextEdit(should open as .rtf) and drop it on that page which then becomes an .rtfd. I made an animated.gif in Gimp and did just what I said. Bingo.

Ah, yes that works! Thanks Doug. I have TextEdit set to open with all new files set to plain text, since I almost always use it for writing html code. Going up and changing to rtf in the format menu, then droping the animated gif into the document worked perfectly.

Which gave me the inspiration to reset mine(TEdit) to open in .txt since that's all I seem to use. Thanks Francine.
