casio ctk 496: Garage Band cannot detect the keyboard!

hi everyone,

I need help. garage band does seem to detect my casio ctk 496 keyboard and i checked preferences and it shows that the there are 2 midi inputs detected.

interestingly, when i disconnect the usb cable i bought separately (i got a usb to midi cable), it says i have 1 midi input detected even tho i don't have any instrument connected to my computer.

under the audio input, there is only one option: built-in audio.

I suspect i need a driver but there doesn't seem to be any drivers on the casio website and the keyboard itself did not come with any disks

is it possible the keyboard is simply not compatible with the mac?

any help or advice is greatly appreciated! thanks!

Hi Joshua,

Exactly how is the keyboard connected to the computer? The information I found on the keyboard shows no USB capability, so it would require a Midi interface connected to the computer, and a midi cable running from the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in on the interface. Then you need to configure the connection in the Audio Midi Setup utility found in /Applications/Utilities.

AppleCare Knowledge Base Document: Mac OS X 10.3 Help : Describing your MIDI system provides instructions on how to setup the midi connections.

Hope this helps!
