I assume that if you're using GB2 then you are running OSX (or it wouldn't work). Your computer can do this for you already: go to System Prefs, select the Speech pane (in the row labelled System), and click the Text to Speech button. You will then see a selection of options for having your machine read things out. Most apps can be told to read things out from the edit menu.

To get this into GB, you will need a piece of software to record the output from your line out: there is a popular one, but I can't remember what it's called because I've never had to use it. Hopefully someone will post with the name.

Alternatively, you can record yourself speaking, and then use the Vocal Transformer effect to process it: this effect can do some very convincing droid noises if you tweak it right (or use the presets).

Good luck.

Audio Hyjack, from what I have heard, will record those voices for you into GB. I think the voices have been in the Mac OS since at least OS8, maybe 7.5. I recall using it to record a voicemail message back in the mid 90s at a place I worked. I remember having to type some words differently to get it to say them correctly, though. I had it calling my dog once. 🙂 His name is Roscoe, but the machine wanted to pronounce it "roes coe" so I had to type it rahscoe so it was pronounced right. The dog wasn't impressed.

May I add: There is no German version of MacinTalk, not even after 20 years. So back then when I wanted my Mac to say German sentences, I had to type them in phonetic English - like "Gootan Tark" for "Guten Tag". Was a lot of fun. But I took it off my answering machine when people told me they couldn't understand any of that gibberish on the phone. 🙂

I'm on Tiger, but I think it was there in Panther, too.

So: Open TextEdit and type some text into an empty document. Mark it. Go to the "Edit" menu - do you have a menu item "Speech"? If yes, go to "Start Speaking".

Also, in the Systems Preferences, there is a "Speech" item, no? Again, I am only looking at Tiger, here it is in the "System" row of symbols. Click on it, you have several options for incoming and outgoing speech. For outgoing, you can specify the voice that is speaking and a keyboard shortcut that will spare you the clicking of the menu.
