HELP!!! Screenshot Command: Command-Shift-4 is NOT working!

Help...someone please...so urgent, for work!

I often use Screenshot Command, Command-Shift-4 but today it is not working. I have not got numlock on either. Is there anyone out there that can give me some guidance, please! Thank you!

Macbook White, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Try logging out of your user account & back in, as well as restarting the computer.

the screenshot command default is command shift 3.

3 does the whole screen. 4 does portions of the screen that you can select. Additionally, after pressing 4 you can hit the space bar to get pix of objects like windows or menus.

Doing a LOGOUT (not just a "shutdown" and "restart" and LOGGING back IN appears to fix this problem. I also had this issue develop suddenly a few weeks ago and tried several things without success, until I read about the simple "log out- log in" solution, which worked.
