iPhone won't make or receive calls

Question

iPhone won't make or receive calls

Everything else works. Apps, email etc whether connected to my home network or 3G. However, when I try to make calls, it's totally mute, even though it says it is calling. The people I'm calling don't receive those calls. Calls to me go straight to voicemail.

I have good signal strength from ATT, and I've tried moving locations. No change.

I've also done a complete reset and restore with no luck.

The iPhone is about a month old.

Any ideas ?

if you have done all of that correctly it's time to see a genius.

do you show at&t bars?

Yup. Got good bars. Worked intermittently for a while, then stopped again.

Went to ATT, got a new SIm card. Worked for two minutes and quit again.

Genius appointment made.

OK all fixed. The modem in the phone was faulty. The store replaced it immediately.

I have this same exact problem. I guess I should bring it into the Apple Store? Is that what you did?

Yes, that's what he did. All repairs, returns, warranty, etc are handled directly by Apple. Make sure you make an appointment with the Genius bar... http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

Just purchased iPhone 3GS Saturday before Thanksgiving. After sleep mode, which I use often due to fast power drops. iPhone awakes with no service. Message on screen says iPhone cannot make or receive calls and that I should use iTunes to restore. I'm often away from my mac so I just press sleep and home button to turn off the turn it back on. Works for me, but what a pain. I'll go check Genius bar, too. Maybe my modem is broken, too.
