iMovie doesn't launch

I was working on an iMovie project on my laptop when I decided to copy the iMovie application to my external MyBook drive to have as an emergency backup. When I closed iMovie and then tried to re-open it, I couldn't. I tried launching by clicking the dock icon, the App folder, and even a pre-existing iMovie file, but I keep getting the same pop-up message that reads, "You cannot open the application iMovie because it may be damaged or incomplete." To fix it I have tried everything, including trashing the preference (com.apple.iMovie.plist), updating my software, rebooting, installing the original Tiger Install DVD, repairing permissions and repairing hard drive using Disk Utility. I also tried re-installing my iLife 08 DVD, but of course the iMovie that comes with that package is not compatible with my laptop since it's a G4. I don't know what else to do. Please help. I need to use iMovie. Thank you in advance.

G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11), PowerBook 1.33GHz

If you just copied the application to the external drive, your original application (in the Applications folder) should be unaffected. Did you do anything else that might affect the original copy?

Go to the /Library/Receipts folder. (It's the Library folder directly on your hard drive.)

Drag the iLife and iMovie receipts to your desktop.
Delete the iMovie application from the Applications folder.

Now you can re-install iMovie from the CD/DVD it came on.

If that works, you can trash the receipt files you dragged to the desktop.

Thank you Lennart. Your advice worked perfectly. I also came across this link which helped me tremendously and may help others in the same situation.

I found that the Tiger Install DVD is just an upgrade DVD and does not contain iMovie 4.
I ended up installing the original Jaguar 10.2 Install DVD's that came with my PowerBook and did a custom install of iMovie 4 ONLY.
