I just bought the iPhone 3GS 32 GB and much to my dismay I just learned that the iPhone does NOT have Speed Dials nor does it support Java.
Unbelieveable, I have an $800.00 phone that does not have Speed Dial - are you kidding me.
iPhone talks about how wonderful surfing the web is on the iPhone. Yeah, but if the page does not load because you don't have Java support, than how good is it?
Did you not search this before you bought the phone?
There are apps where you can use to voice command who you want the phone to call, also you can set numbers in favorites that makes it easy to call someone.
No, I didn't research this before I bought the phone. This is clearly my fault.
However, one would assume for an $800.00 phone Speed Dial would be standard. I don't think in all the years I have had a cell phone that I have not had this feature.
Yes, there are applications that do this but they will not work with BlueAnt V1 Bluetooth Headset for 'Speed Dial'.
Just about every page I go to on the web works just fine. As far as "speed dial", you can specify favorite people who get their own little dialer page.
Tyrone, you will also find out what millions of other people know about the iphone and what it CAN do, which far out weighs the functions that other phones can't do that the iphone can..... did that make sense? At least this phone works and does what you tell it to do right then and not 15-20 seconds or even minutes later or possibly after rebooting it 3 to 5 times a day.
You do know that no product does everything. You buy the product that meets your overall needs the best.
If the iphone does not meet your needs, perhaps you can still return it and buy a phone with speed dial.
It seems your need for speed dial and Java is great. If these things are so important as to render you in disbelief, perhaps you have chosen the wrong device.

Unfortunately there are web pages I go to that DO require Java and don't work because there is no >Java support on the iPhone.
Since you state that you had to pay full price due to not being eligible for the upgrade, one would assume you had the old 3G before getting the new 3G S. The 3G DIDN'T have java or speed dial either. Wondering why you though the new 3G S would have it?
first of all: what webpage on earth needs java? seriously, noone uses java on the web anymore. it's used to make platform-independent applications, but for the cost of a lot of speed. the iphone doesn't need that because it has it's own appstore with tons of applications.
as for speed dial ... I'm not quite sure why you would need speed dial. there are several ways to call someone:
1. tap "contacts", tap a name, tap a number (=3 taps)
2. tap phone (which is probably in your dock), tap contacts or favorites, tap a name, tap a number (4 taps)
3. set your home button to take you to your phone favorites. then just double-press home, tap a number (2 button pressed, 1 tap)
4. use voice dial (1 button press and a little talking)
As I indicated a number of times in my responses to others I need SPEED DIAL for BlueAnt V1 BlueTooth headset that dials for you when you indicate 'Speed Dial #'.
Despite what you may think there are alot of web pages that use Java.
I didn't see that before, sorry.
but if you absolutly need that you should have read about the iphone a little better, because the iphone isn't just like other phones, which is probably why it revolutionized the smart phone market 😉
sorry to hear that it doesn't fit your needs, but I guess that's just the way it is. you might want to sell it and get another phone ...
