Make triplets without changing everything else?

This should be easy but I can't find it in the help or the forum. I'm entering some software music, and need to make some quarter-note triplets. When I select that in the grid control, or in the note value pop-up menu, other notes I've already set get messed up.

I have found some premade loops that come with garage band that contain triplets, and the grid is set for eighth notes. How do you do this?

Thanks, Jim

Well, I finally figured out how to do it, though I don't really understand it. The key seems to be that you have to adjust the duration of the notes in the bar view of the editor rather than the notation view. Then you can just change the grid while you're putting in the triplets, then go back.

It seems that the notation view is pretty cumbersome and hard to work with. Or is there something I don't get?

I don't know if anyone really works with the score view. After you get used to the "bar" view, it's a lot easier to handle.

As for the grid: Changing it shouldn't affect the notes that you already put in (as soon as you don't select and quantize them). If you want to snap only some of the notes to a grid (let's say you have quarter notes and quarter triplets in your tune), you can do that selectively: Choose the new grid, select the notes that you want to snap to it, and make them snap. The rest should remain unaffected.
