Recover history.plist

Anybody know any ways to recover my history.plist under Library/Safari? It no longer is there and my history wont save after a shutdown.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Greetings,

I don't see how your History file could not be there; Safari cannot function without it. Where are you looking for that file? Have you tried a Spotlight search? If the file is truly gone, Safari creates a new one on the next startup of the program, so you'd have a new one. I need more details.

Safari still works. When i look under library/safari history.plist it appears for a couple seconds and disappears, which is not enough time for me to click on it or anything. Everytime i shutdown my computer my history in safari disappears and isnt there when i turn my computer back on and look under history in safari. I tried to repair permissions to see if the history.plist file would come back but it won't and i dont know what to do to retain my history after shutdown.

If you create a new user account and use Safari, does it happen there, also? If so, there's something seriously wrong with your system and you should do an Archive & Install.

On another user account the history.plist is there and the safari history remains after a shutdown so how can i fix it on my account?

I would first try running Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and Repair Disk Permissions; then download and install the 10.5.8 Combo Update (a 759 MB download).

Restart your Mac, Repair Disk Permissions again, then try Safari again.

I think at this point you'd be better off doing an Archive & Install with the Preserve Users and Network Settings option. Read this before you do that: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545

That will replace the OS with a fresh copy, while leaving all your programs, accounts and other files untouched. Then you can install the 10.5.8 Combo Update, use Software Update to get any other updates you might still need, then Repair Disk Permissions, delete the Previous Systems folder, restart your Mac and try Safari again.

Still no luck, I did the archive and install and repaired disk permissions an I still have no history after shutdown or history.plist. Anything else i can try??
