Good Day,
i think this topics must be cover somewhere else but i cant find a real solution:

i will like to play my iphone via the usb cable on any pc, is there an application ?

I can plug my iphone via the USB cable on my FORD car and listen to the music, the display is even display the song played and i have full control from my car steering wheel.

but i cant find any application to enable this functionality on a regular PC.

in my opinion if microsoft Sync in the car can access this information why there is no PC application ?

Regards

Cannot be done. Audio out via the dock connector doesn't run to a computer. You could use a headphone patch cable to your PC's microphone port, or to external speakers.

Yes, you can do this with
    Mac: PhoneView

    Window: TouchCopy

    Hope this helps!

That will allow him to copy the songs to his PC and play them from the PC, it won't let him play the songs on the iPhone.

    Dear neuroanatomist

    Thanks for your reply,

I just don't understand where the technical difficulties are, Since the Microsoft Sync in my car is able to control the iphone via USB.
Maybe someone soon will figure our how to simulate MS sync in windows.

    Thanks Pastahelmet and deggie

I saw few application to do that and i am not interested to copy the music, was looking for a small apps to play.

Personally i believe apple should have this app embedded on every player, as soon you connect to the usb a small applet will be installed and allow you to play the song or even watch the movie on the PC.

I think that would be cool.

Sorry i forget we are talking about Apple

    Thanks

I'd love to see a similar app. I have my library on my iPhone but my HD on my MacBookPro gets too full to work on videos and lots of photos if the iTUnes library is on it. I can't see why it should be difficult to make such and app.

It will take more than just an applet. Microsoft Sync is a hardware/firmware system specifically designed
to be iPod/iPhone & other MP3 player compatible. Microsoft could partner
with Dell & others to license this firmware and install chips in the computer
to implement this. But since u can use a $5 cable and connect to the sound
card I'm not sure there is much of a market for it.

Hello. I'm interested in this topic as well because I just bought a 16GB iPhone 3GS.

I sync my iPhone with my iMac at home but I want to be able to play music, podcasts, etc that's stored on the iPhone on my PC at work using iTunes. Right now, I can view them but everything is grayed out and not selectable.

The frustrating part is that I had a 1G iPod Touch and I was able to do this just fine. I don't see the real difference between being able to do this on the iPod Touch and not being able to do it on the iPhone. They are basically the same beast.

Any one have any thoughts on this?

"I want to be able to play music, podcasts, etc that's stored on the iPhone on my PC at work using iTunes"

As this entire thread says, you cannot do this.

"The frustrating part is that I had a 1G iPod Touch and I was able to do this just fine."

The iphone is not the same thing as an ipod touch. As provided, the iphone does NOT do this.

" I don't see the real difference between being able to do this on the iPod Touch and not being able to do it on the iPhone. "

This does not stop it from being so.

"Any one have any thoughts on this?"

What are you looking for? If you read this thread and many others, you know that this cannot be done with iphone. What more do you need to know?

The iPod supports what is called disk mode, which is required for this. The iPhone does not support disk mode.

Copied from the 2nd post in this thread.

You could use a headphone patch cable to your PC's microphone port, or to external speakers.

I think all of us just want to know why the iPhone is treated differently than any other iPod!!

What's really needed is an effort from the open-source community. Rip out iTunes and the apple drivers. Write a new set of drivers to the dock connector spec and create a virtual "iHome" player on your PC.

If only I had the time ...

Unless I am misunderstanding, PhoneView and TouchCopy will do what they want to do. There's a Play button right in the program, which will play the music. Hope this helps.

Haven't tried it so I really can't say for sure. And not really interested since my music is on my computer.

I downloaded a demo version of PhoneView. It does play the music. One wonders though why this is not simply and App for the iPhone. It costs 19.95. Thanks for the note on this. It is available at www.ecamm.com. Also referenced in a note way up.
