Time Capsule Powered Off, Won't Power Back On

My Time Capsule was running just fine, then spontaneously just powered off by itself. All the other devices in the power strip were fine and I tried switching outlets, plugging it directly into the wall, and unplugging the TC and plugging the power cord back in. The network port lights in the back are out and the light on the front is dark. However, when I first plugged the cable back into the TC, the network lights came on for a split second. I'm guessing that there's a power connection fried (because if it were a power supply failure the lights would not have blinked on at all).

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Same problem here on a 2nd Gen 1TB TC A1302 Serial No XX91 purchased May 2009, stopped working couple weeks back and when I plug the power lead in the LEDs above the ports flash momentarily then nothing more. Went to Genius Bar in Covent Garden who told me there were no known problems but probably a power supply issue and as out of warranty nothing they can do about it. And then I came across this thread. No known problems?? Yeah right! Not impressed!

Your Time Capsule can be repaired. Even if Apple replaced your Time Capsule with a new device, you would lose all of the backups on your old Time Capsule, unless you were willing to pay to have them transferred...which would again likely cost more than the cost of repairing your Time Capsule.

By repairing your current Time Capsule, you should be up and running again soon. Some suggestions for repair:

What do we do now? Apple wont replace the 2nd generation Time capsule as its not under the 12 month warranty. However it is not fit for purpose and should not last 18 months. I have lots and lots of apple products and am really p***ed off this time. I love apple and expect it to last more than this.

Will anyone from Apple be reading these posts? I have already paid out for a brand new external hard drive which cost me £200. I just want my time capsule repaired for free or refunded. In the UK I am going to find out if I am entitled to my money back.

Anyone else please let me know if they have had success with a refund.

Thanks

I guess mine lasted longer than most. XX925XXXXXX 1Tb dead. Oh well. I guess I will extract the drive and drop it in an enclosure, but I sure as **** won't be buying another one of these. Makes me question even the ruggedness of the AirPort - is the power supply that flaky on it as well? Very disappointed Apple - usually your products soldier on for a long time. The Time Capsule was very expensive for what it was - I guess I expected too much the additional dollars.

Apple is not here. They will not respond to your question.

Hmmmm... It was only a (sarcastic) joke, man. But thanks anyway, go on, you're the best...

My TC 2nd Gen (Aug 2009) died and is outside the original recall serial numbers.

The power board burned; confirmed by Fix That Mac - authorized repair shop. They cannot repair (parts not available- they say). I called Flextronix (OEM part supplier); they will not speak to me.

Went to Genius Bar - they will replace my 1TB TC for $250 or offered to sell me a new 2TB for $299. Lemmie see... $299 for original TC plus $250 for a "replacement TC."

Apple's buy new replacement policy is encourages TC owners to buy new TCs AND throw bad TCs to the landfill. This disposable electonics policy is not environmentally friendly.

The power board is not the only thing burned! As an owner of the first "Fat Mac" and dozens of Apple products since then, I expect more.

Apple, (with more cash than the US government), please do the right thing.

In fact, everyone suspected (maybe including Apple) that 2009 models would die just like 2008 ones.

But at the time of the "TimeCapsuleGate" (remember, october 2009), it was too early to prove it.

Just to add to the catalogue of failed time capsules. My 1TB from August 2009 has now failed - no power light, plug in again after changing the fuse and the light comes on briefly before dying for good and yes you have read this story before from the numerous previous posts. I will not be replacing it and I cannot imagine why anyone else reading this posting would either. This is a product that falls well short of what might be expected from Apple.

Joseluis—Did you actually try to get it repaired/replaced by Apple and they declined coverage?

Just curious because my 1st Gen (A1254) 500 GB TC just failed today...sporadic shut-downs for weeks and then total failure today. (I left it unplugged for 1 hour and when I plugged it in the amber light flashed for 2 minutes, it sounded like something was trying to start, and then the light went black again.)

Mine is within the announced serial # range (xx808xxxxxx), but I'm not optimistic as Apple's tech note on the program has been removed. I have an appt on Monday at the Apple Store—any advice from the community on how to address it and force the issue?
