iphone is a brick

My iphone screen is completely dead at the top and bottom of the screen, meaning I cannot use any icon at the top and cannot even make a phone call. When I called tech support I was informed that Apple knew about this problem but my only course of action now is to buy a new one. I just can't accept a company waiting until the product warranty runs out and then saying that they knew there was a defect.

I have had an iphone since July 2007 and have had no issues, nor has anyone I know.

Sorry you are having problems with your iphone, but devices do not last forever. Applecare would give you two years of warranty.

Got a response from a great service rep who explained the problem and how I can get it fixed.
Frankly, I surprised myself in sounding off so, especially given how satisfied I have been with every Apple purchase made. We forget to tell them about all the great products and service and only let them have an earful when we encounter a problem.
My love of Apple products is restored.
