HP LaserJet P1005 not working with Snow Leopard

Has anyone managed to get this printer to work with Snow Leopard 10.6? I have installed the latest drivers* from the HP website which BTW do not say they support 10.6 , see http://is.gd/2DfcE

*Not sure exactly what the version number of the drivers is. The website says they are version 1.0.7, but when installed they show version 1.0.6

I either get nothing coming out of the printer or an error "PrintJobMgr quit unexpectedly - This report will be sent to Apple automatically".

Apple has issued this kb article with regards printer compatibility (scanning down it couldn't see your one):

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP

Printer compatibility is perhaps a tricky issue, and perhaps especially with older printer models. Apple are releasing print driver updates via the software update now, and certainly I'd check and try drivers at the manufacturers website (or even some of the Open ones out there), but on upgrading OS print driver incompatibility it is a potential pitfall that some Mac people will encounter on update with maybe no initial solution.

From this web page:
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can use if there is an issue:

Ensure the printer is connected, has power, has ink / toner, paper, and no alerts on its built-in display.
Network based printers should be on the same subnet; you shouldn't have to worry about this if your printer is on your home network.
Use Software Update for the latest available updates.
Delete the affected printer from Printer & Fax System Preferences, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, reset printing system as described below, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, contact the printer vendor and/or visit their website for printer software and support.

Thank you Ewan. As far as I know the HP LaserJet P1005 is still a current model. At worst it is recently discontinued. I expect that you are right (no initial solution) and I am just going to have to wait for new drivers. Disappointing that a current/recent model was overlooked on Apple's printer list.

Thank you HP Mac Architect. The 10.5 drivers actually don't work 😟 and hence my problem.

I am able to print a Demo page, but nothing else.

I am sure that 10.6 has initiated the problem. I updated the printer drivers yesterday with 10.5.8 with no issue. After the upgrade to 10.6 the printer was not installed so I did so using the previously mentioned drivers downloaded from the HP website.

The listing in the knowledge base article gives you an idea of printer models that are out-of-the-box supported by Snow Leopard, and I think your one was released a few years ago, but isn't included. Your best bet if not supported by OS is compatible driver from HP, but if nothing there then can attempt work around with other drivers, but perhaps may be out of luck for now.
