Iphone will not turn on

I deleted my Facebook app this morning anf then did a hard reset but my iphone will not turn on. The Apple logo appears for a second or two and then it goes blank. I have it plugged in and so it's not the battery. Any ideas?

Plug into computer hold the top power button then the home button together waiting for the phone to turn on and the apple logo to show. Continue to hold. Fend off the temptation to release the buttons and wait for the phone to power down. Continue holding until it boots up again. Continue to hold until it eventually boots to the "plug into itunes" screen. iTunes will then be able to see the phone but will say "your iphone is in recovery mode. Restore phone" Restore the phone and you're good to go."

Try the reset again. Did you do it this way... press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings. Your button holding may take longer, i.e. up to a minute. Also, if the battery was dead, it needs to charge for at least 10-15 minutes to come back to life.

I'm having the EXACT same issues as the OP. I've tried the two-button reset as described. I've tried two different computers with two different cables. no good. nothing. computer will not recognize there is a phone attached. Phone will not stay on. The apple logo appears for about 20 seconds and then goes black. Mine too happened when installing the facebook app update. weird.

will be chatting with apple tech shortly. will keep you posted!!

I flipped out when mine did the same this morning for no apparent reason (I wasn't even installing the facebook app). The suggestion mentioned above worked! You just have to plug it in to the computer and really hold the wake/sleep button and the home button (normal reset procedure) for a long looooong period of time until it resets. Then the computer will recognize it and iTunes will prompt you to restore your iPhone immediately. Hope it works for whoever else is having the same problem.

My girlfriend had the very same thing happen to her iphone. The facebook update was almost complete and then it just went black she says. Now it will not boot up. Just shows apple logo and then goes black again...
I have an iPhone too and also did the Facebook update but had a different problem. I couldn't start up the facebook app after downloading the update. But I did a restart on my iPhone and it stated working fine. (and it's a great update by the way... or at least that's what I thought before my girlfriend had issues...)

My girlfriend hasn't backed up her iPhone on her computer for a long time... so I'm afraid she'll lose a lot of stuff on there that she might need if she has to do a restore(phone #'s, notes, etc...)

What was the suggestion from Apple? Did they suggest a restore?

I had exactly the same thing happen after installing Facebook 3.0 upgrade. Is someone at Apple dealing with this? The earlier post about plugging the iPhone into your computer, then holding down the sleep and home buttons until you get the iTunes connection works. But it erases everything and you have to restore and resync everything. I hear the new Facebook upgrade is nice, but I'm not about to try upgrading again until I know it's fixed. 😟

Yowza, this is the exact same thing that happened to me last night when I updated the facebook app. Same blank screen, same restart, everything.

Just showed the apple logo, then shut back down. After the hard restart for 15+ seconds, the connect to itunes screen came up, and it's now going to reinstall the software entirely.

Really? Am I really losing all my settings because of the facebook update?

Guess I'll be warning others now.

When I installed the new update for Facebook a few days ago, my iPhone was unresponsive or was crashing for nearly an hour. Two Facebook apps (the old and new) appeared in my apps. I deleted the old one, but couldn't delete the new one because it was still loading/waiting even after shutting off my phone and starting it up again. What a headache.

Now tonight, a new update appeared that said it fixed the bugs, and a list of the features of the new version. I'm not even sure if it was an update but it has completely crashed my iPhone. I am now restoring it (after trying for an hour to just force shut if off with the home/lock buttons.

I am so angry right now. I now have to install the OS 3.0 AGAIN. The last time I backed up my phone was 5 days ago and I am constantly putting data in. I'm glad that my latest backup was before the new app. I am not going to download it again until I see that they have addressed this issue specifically. No app has done this much damage!

Apple: This app should be taken down while this issue is solved!
