Working for me so far as well. Logic 9 + NI Battery 3, Kontakt 3 player, MachFive... My MOTU PCI-424 card and drivers are working as well (i use it for both Logic and for regular "system" sound playback). MOTU MTP AV also still working with the new drivers for it. I cloned my leopard system to a second drive and did a clean install, probably not necessary but i have years of "cruft" and i want to put everything on probation and bring it back on an "as needed" basis 🙂
There is no need for Snow Leopard to access more memory since more memory is available even without 64-bit (up to 32GB in the case of Kontakt and 4GB per instance in the case of EXS24 – with only hardware-limited number of instances). The whole app breaking the 4 GB barrier and accessing more memory is a very good thing, but you probably don’t want to sacrifice compatibility just to get it. "Fortunately, you don’t need the 64-bit OS to get beyond that 4 GB barrier. On the Mac, some workarounds have extended the practical life of 32-bit memory addressing for music applications – thus avoiding the need to get a 64-bit native version of every driver and every piece of software you want to use."
Another note, when NI release Kore Audio Unit with a 64-bit engine and with some sort of memory server, like Kontakt Memory Server, and their 32-bit engine wrapper that will be all we need to load VST's and AU's into Logic Pro.
There truly is interesting if true.
I am upgrading tomorrow and use Omnisphere quite a bit.
For everything to be OK except for one patch is quite bizarre to say the least.
I would suggest looking elsewhere, and contacting Spectrasonics it that is really the case.
I am extremely curious!
I upgraded to SL on Friday, and so far I've had a lot of headaches working on filmscoring projects this weekend. Here are my issues:
- Numerous lock-ups, hangs, and random crashing
- In some plugins, hitting the (x) to close out of it has caused Logic to consistently crash without saving.
- IMPORTANT: Memory allocation still appears to be an issue!!! On a simple film cue I was working on, I had the following :
* 1 Battery 3 (Orchestral Percussion kit)
* 2 Omnisphere patches
* 3 Kontakt 3 instruments (Garritan harp, a Symphobia legato string patch, Symphobia staccato string patch)
* 4 EXS24 samplers (Dan Dean's solo cello, suspended cymbal swell patch, Vienna Symphony single violin patch (pfp 3sec), Rain Piano patch)
It's inconsistent, as sometimes I am able to run this sort of a session without issues, while other times I will be given the "Getting Low On Memory" issue. And other times, it will quit entirely. I save after every keystroke which is a good habit, but it's also out of fear of losing my work.
To be sure, I had Activity Monitor running in the background and the graphic on the dock set to the pie-chart to show memory allocation, how much is used/free/etc., and Logic consistently crashes with a good 5GB of RAM still completely free of use. Why is this, Apple? I thought this was 64-bit...
In my opinion, as well as what others here have expressed, the biggest aspect about SL that had me excited was to have a complete true 64-bit memory allocation system as part of the OS, and part of Logic. This does not seem the case, and I'm curious as to what Apple's official technical response would be to whether this issue will be resolved or not.
I was also skeptical of the memory issue being fixed via a re-write of the OS's code as 64-bit when I noticed that I didn't have to reformat and do a clean install.
Again, I repeat... hopefully this will get Apple's attention, so pardon the annoyance to the rest of you...

64 bit doesn't have any influence if the plugins are still addressing 32. It's not just up to Apple to flick the switch. It's going to be a long transition... not just a flick of the switch!
I am going to clone my system drive to a bootable backup (using Disk Utility's restore function) today and upgrade to 10.6...... at least I'll be able to step back if it all goes awol.
Do you think then really what we should be awaiting are, based on my example above, 64-bit versions of Omnisphere, Kontakt 3 (isn't 3.5 64-bit?), and Battery 3?
If that's the case, I think I'm just getting hung up on getting excited over something that was based on misinformation (on my behalf, admittedly).
I think there is a lot of misinformation out there about all of this. Yes, Kontakt 3.5 is 64 bit in the right circumstances. ie It's not running 64 bit within Logic and I am not sure that its memory server program is running in 64 bit, unless it's working with the standalone version of K3.5 (not totally sure about this).
It's going to be a while before all the planets align and we are working in a complete 64 bit environment.
I got an even bigger problem. Did a clean install, then...trying to install everything, but...I just can't seem to install logic 9. The installer-app opens (dock icon), but no install-window (where I need to enter my name and serial, etc.).
How did ya'll manage to get logic pro working (it worked and installed fine on leopard).
