Can't drag & drop to external hard drive!

I have approx. 5300 AIFF songs in my iTunes library. I converted them, in iTunes, to AAC format and then selected and tried to drag & drop these AAC files to a 250gb external firewire hard drive. They simply will not copy to the external drive! A simple drag & drop procedure. The external hard drive is functional & empty. Just for a test, I created a new folder on my desktop and tried to drag these songs to it and the same thing happens. Nothing. Tries to start the transfer and then just quits. *FYI, if I drag & drop only, say, 100 to 200 songs, the procedure works fine*. ????? Very frustrating.

*Any help appreciated.*

I have the same problem. I've been trying to pull music from my itunes library to a thumb drive and the copy just doesn't work if I grab a big enough group of songs. Also, I tried to drag to a folder on my local drive and same behavior. If I drag in smaller groups, it will work the first couple times but then subsequent copying stops working at all. I even got into the following weird state where the folder info on the desktop reads 1242 items and the get info for that same folder says ~800 some items.
