HP Device FAQ

OK, it looks like I need to get this started if nothing else to head off questions. So that being said without further ado here goes. And I will try to keep this thread updated over the coming days.

=====

Question: Where can I find the latest print/scan/fax drivers for my HP device?

Answer: All of the latest drivers as of this point in time are included on the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD. As of right now you will not find anything newer on HP.com. There are three ways to get the drivers, all relatively simple.

1) Install the OS with your device connected - if the installer sees you have an HP printer it will install drivers for your HP printer.

2) Plug your device in and print - if the drivers are not installed, the simple act will prompt Software Update to ask if you'd like to install the drivers.

3) Download the driver package from the Apple download page here. There is really no reason to need this last step unless you run an Installer or Uninstaller from the CD that came with your device or HP.com and things no longer work.

=====

Question: What devices are HP supporting with the In-OS drivers?

Answer: A full list of supported devices can be found here. This list will also tell you if your multi-function device includes drivers for scan and fax (if your device has fax capabilities) or simply print drivers.

=====

Question: My device isn't listed on the list, does that mean my device is not supported?

Answer: No. HP is working on updating the list of unsupported devices so you can tell if you're device won't be supported. For devices that are not on the support on unsupported list, that doesn't mean they will be supported, it means HP is currently investigating if they can support them. As always HP.com is the best place for you to check. And as I know more, I'll post the updates here.

=====

Question: You have lots of answers, are you here officially supporting HP?

Answer: No. I am here helping out because I know OS transitions can be difficult for some people. Hopefully with the In-OS support for printing, scanning, and faxing this transition will be smoother then past ones. That being said, I have a full time job at HP and I am doing this on my own in addition to that job. And as always, any viewpoints expressed are purely my own and in no way should be considered official statements from HP.

Question: Are there print drivers not included on the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD that are included via Software Update or on the driver download from Apple?

Note that to get Software Update to trigger, the above printers must be connected via USB, not connected to Airport (or other) wireless base station.

I installed snow leopard earlier - HP C5180 works when usb plugged into computer -- but does not work when plugged into airport extreme. In fact, the newest firmware for airport will not download (keeps searching) When I called Apple Care -- they told me server is overloaded -- but that does not solve wireless printing problem. He says bonjour many not be in drivers. (It was before.....) I tried downloaded drivers (as stated below) and I get error messages for some of the extensions in the packet. Please help..... need a network printing setup --

If your C5180 works plug into the USB port on the computer, but on the Airport Extreme there are a couple of trouble shooting steps. Power down the Airpot and the C5180. Plug-in the USB cable. Turn on the printer. Turn on the base station. If things still don't work, let me know (and if they don't one of my other steps would probably be to try a different USB cable). And remember once connected to an Airport the device supports print only functionality.

Just trying to help.

I updated my MAC to Snow Leopard OS today and now it will not recognize the specially filtered i1Display2 that Xrite made for my HP Dreamcolor monitor under the name DreamColor Advanced Profiling Solution. I know that the original software was written by Xrite for OSX but is there an updated driver that will work on my computer?

The program will start but when you go to the HP Dreamcolor Colorimeter Status, it says device is not connected despite the fact that it is. It is not a faulty USB port, I checked all of them.

The calibration software version 1.0.2 dated 8/26/08 is installed and all that I have access to through the programs software update.

Question: Can you tell me what other printers you are working on print drivers for.

Answer: First do not consider this an official announcement, but I wanted to let you know what we are working on for release as soon as we get them done. Second, I don't have a release date yet but things are progressing. That being said, the following device do have print drivers in development and we hope to have them posted as soon as we can. The list includes:

Laserjet 1022
Laserjet M1005
Laserjet M1120
Laserjet M1319MFP
Laserjet P1005
Laserjet P1006
Laserjet P1007
Laserjet P1008
Laserjet P1505
Laserjet P2014
Laserjet P2035
Color Laserjet 2600

Just trying to help.

HP itself states that Apple supports it. Based on that I installed over 10.5 and now I cannot print.
That is not just a minor issue. I hope the fix that soon which means in the next days because school starts on Monday and I need the printer working.

Is there actually a way to instead of installing over 10.5 to back it up and install 10.6 fresh ?
I feel that 10.5 got slower and slower over time with software I added.

I believe you -- but it works when I plug it in directly to computer -- just not on airport. Here is the Link to HP that says its supported with snow leopard: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=1153481

I am having problems with my airport extreme - I get the internet, email -- but it will not print -- it says the airport is busy and to try again. I have been on apple support by phone for many hours.
