After the installation of Snow Leopard my wireless internet no longer works. I can connect with my Macbook (late 2008) via ethernet from either the cable modem or the router. Also, one Windows machine and one newer aluminum Macbook in this house work fine either via ethernet or wireless.
When I look in network settings it shows Airport as connected, with the same IP I had before installing Snow Leopard. All the internet settings are also the same. If I try to load a page in Safari, Firefox, or Camino, the loading circle simply spins forever with no progress. Also, programs like Adium, iChat, Mail, Entourage, etc are unable to connect to the internet either. In the menu bar, the airport icon is shown as usual, with all bars. It also shows me my neighbor's networks, to which I also cannot connect.
Does anyone have any ideas yet? If you need any other information, don't hesitate to ask.
I'm having similar problems with connecting wirelessly.
Airport is on.
I can see the network I need to connect to, but to no avail.
Error message from console is below:
I solved my problem by going into System Preferences > Network and removed the Airport service by clicking "-". I then added the Airport service back by clicking on the "+" and the problem was solved.
Incidentally, my wireless worked find at my office. But at home I could not connect to the internet even though I could connect to other computers with my Airport Extreme.
Try to create a new location, re-add the network and see what happens. No guarantees but it's worth a try.
- Open System Preferences
- Click the 'Location' popup/bar and select 'Edit Locations...'
- click '+' to create a new one. Name it and click 'Done'.
- If 'Airport' appears, select that and add your network/input your wireless settings and 'Apply'.
My macbook connected fine to my linksys router using OS 10.5.8. Since upgrading to 10.6 Snow Leopard, I cannot turn on the airport. I can choose "turn on" but the diamond menu bar remains empty. I get no popup asking for my password. My ipod touch connects to my Linksys router fine. The issue is I cannot turn on the airport. Thank you fro any help on this.
I was having the same problems, wireless would connect and assign an ip but sites would not load, tried everything mentioned here and more. But here is what worked for me in the end.
I used openDNS!
Go to Airport -> Advanced -> DNS -> click + and enter 208.67.220.220 do the same again and add 208.67.222.222
I tried everything firmware updates for my wireless router but this worked for me. Hopefully this will help someone else too.
Now to work out how to get drivers for my printer!
I had the same problem on my iMac after upgrading. Advice from Apple tech support was to delete (and remove from trash) system configuration folder from library/preferences and reboot. It now works just fine
delete the complete content in the folder "SystemConfiguration" (not the folder) and remove from trash. After reboot it works fine. AirPort network kept the password. But all other network connections are gone.
This worked for me! The problem I was experiencing was being able to connect to the wireless network but the internet was not working at all. I could still see other computers on the network and the router and everything. All I did was like he said: Delete the Airport service. Then add it again. It's that easy!
Trashing the entire System Configuration folder has worked for me.I first copied it to a USB drive as a precaution. The OS recreated the folder when I rebooted. It only has 6 files now instead of 7. I have seen comments on this thread of people having"that same problem" even though their problem descriptions seemed different. My problem was that I could not turn airport on, therefore I could not see any wireless routers. I tried a few of the suggestions on here without true success. I did manage to turn airport on and use it at one point by creating another named location in network preferences. I just used airport instead of automatic. By switching to "airport name" I could turn on my wireless card(airport) but I could not access my router. By then switching back to "automatic" in preferences I could use my wireless hookup. This certainly would not be a desirable process.
Thank you very much for this solution. I appreciate your passing on the apple tech suggestion of trashing the system configuration folder. My Macbook now seems to function well.
My Airport is the other way....I can't turn it off.
I can get on the net, connect to my home network and other networks (apple store etc) but if I try and turn Airport off it does nothing.
I'm afraid to mess about too much in case I turn it off and can't get it back on again. That would be worse.
