Can't Minimize Windows With Double Click

I had this problem sporadically in OS X 10.5, but after a clean install of Snow Leopard, it appears to be system wide now.

I can minimize windows using the little yellow button at the top left, and also by hitting command + M, but I can't minimize by double-clicking at the top of windows. Restarting Finder and even the computer itself didn't correct the issue.

Anyone know anything about this?

Could it be that you have your double click speed set to fast?

Check System Preferences>Mouse.

It hasn't worked for me. I've turned the double-click speed to the lowest setting and windows still don't minimise on double clicking the titlebar. This applies to all windows apart from Adobe apps like Fireworks and Photoshop.

Found the solution in another post. You need to go to System Preferences > Appearance. Then tick the box for Double click a window's title bar to minimize.

Strange how this option is turned off by default.

Thanks for the "fix".
I've been using a Mac since System 6 and have no idea why Apple has now decided to make this NOT a default setting? Why change something that's been a standard for so long? Maybe they did it for the Windows crowd...?

check your settings.

System Preferences -> Appearance

Make sure there's a check in "Double-click a window's title bar to minimize"

Tony,

Boy do I feel dumb! That was it, thanks a lot! Still learning my way around OS X I suppose.

I was hoping it would be something as easy as that and not some glitch or whatever.

No need to feel dumb - I believe that's a change in the default behaviour and not expected by most users of previous versions of OS X.

I'm having this issue as well. Not sure what's going on. I've un-checked and re-checked the box in Appearance, and set to slowest, it just isn't going. Any new info?
