Has anyone else noticed that when you switch between spaces, the animation is very choppy compared to 10.5? This is one of a few system animations that seems to suffer from sluggishness. I'm on a 15" unibody, 4gigs, with the 9600GT enabled, so it's not like I'm running a low end system...
Unibody 15" Macbook Pro 2.4, iBook with faulty logic board ;), 16gb iPhone 3G,
Mac OS X (10.6)
I'm noticing this as well. The animation for switching spaces back in 10.5 was nice and smooth, but now it's just sluggish and choppy, and I'm running the same platform that you are. I'm wondering why it's having this problem, as the previous Leopard didn't have this issue.
Do you have sufficient disk space? Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
221.08GB free out of 319.73GB total, so disk space seems to not be an issue here, think there might be something else that is keeping the spaces switch animation from being as smooth as it should be?
Add me to the bandwagon. S L O W and Choppy, nice and sloppy! Also all the icons in my /Applications turned to itunes, Restarted in safe-mode fixed the issue, and partially helped animation, but still choppy.
i was about to make a thread about this too. i have the same basic specs as you, unibody macbook pro 15" with 4 gigs ram and 9600m GT and its choppy animations for stacks, spaces, and a few other little animations. hopefully they fix it. soon.
Yeah...stacks is fairly slow at responding...I noticed that expose is extremely sensitive on the multi-touch trackpads...things like trying to reveal desktop and it doing so but then going straight to expose.
I'm also noticing sluggish/choppy animations on my March 2009 24" iMac (9400M, 2.66GHz C2D) in Stacks (Grid view), when minimizing windows, and when using Spaces. I don't really see the same problem with my 2.66GHz MacBook Pro (9600M GT) regardless of which GPU I'm using.
Even when I hold down Shift to minimize apps in slow motion, the choppiness persists on my iMac which leads me to think it's a software issue and not a slow GPU issue. Hopefully Apple can do something to address this!
