Installation went great, but now the internet doesn't work

I just installed Snow Leopard, and everything went great. New features are awesome, no complications, except that my internet doesn't work. The Airport turns on, and the network can connect (with full bars), but every time I try to use the internet, it doesn't load. Mail, Safari, Software Update, nothing.

The network (ATT DSL on a Time Capsule with built-in Airport Extreme) works fine, as I can connect easily on my laptop. The only thing I've changed is Snow Leopard.

Does anyone know how to tell Snow Leopard that yes, I really do have internet on this network?

Same problem here.

I have a MacBook Pro (Mid 2007) and a MacBook Pro (Early 2008), both of which were working fine under Mac OS 10.5.8, both of which I upgraded to retail Snow Leopard today.

Ever since the upgrade, wireless on both has been flaky. The AirPort connection remains strong, but occasionally networking will stop working, and my email servers and all web sites become unreachable until I turn AirPort off and back on again (via the menu at the top right of the screen).

10.6 definitely has problems with wireless.

Installed Snow Leopard on a old Intel Mac Mini and a new Mac mini. Installed without any problem. The new mac mini is working fine accessing internet over wireless connecting on the n band to my Dual band Airport Extreme. But, my old mini is not working. Extremely slow internet connection. Even opening Airport to access the configuration of the AEBS takes a very long time. Looks like the airport driver on this mac mini is not getting configured correctly.

Any suggestions?

Exact same issue here, MacBook Pro 15" Intel core 2 duo.

I get an IP address. Can't ping out on either wired or wireless networks. Turned OS X firewall off, same issue. I can see other computers on the LAN I am on at work.

*Creating a new network location resolved this issue for me!*

I can now browse fine.

My early-adopter sister has a year-old MacBook and she of course upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday. She experienced the same problems which have been identified in this thread and others: Poor connectivity to the Internet even though the connection to the wireless base station appeared to be working correctly.

We checked her network settings and they were fine. Even "traceroute" worked perfectly. It was only the apps which would work sporadically.

We then performed the usual you-must-be-new-to-networking diagnostics and voodoo fixes which make up the majority of "Apple Discussion" suggestions. I won't list them here as you've all seen them 1000 times as the list endlessly increases in length and is judicially cut-n-pasted as the first reply to any problem posted. Nothing worked.

Well then, exhausted late last night, she put a cachet of rosemary and willow bark on the keyboard and went to sleep. Ok, I'm joking about the cachet, but she did give up and go to sleep.

This morning, all is well. She didn't even reboot, just woke the machine from sleep.

So what can we conclude from this? Maybe this means that the problem is some cache file somewhere which should be removed during the installation process but isn't? A corrupted or incorrect cache file might explain how this problem could fix itself. It might also explain why some people have reported success by clearing and re-entering configuration settings.

Quite mysterious. I think I'll wait a few days and see if anything more concrete is discovered.

Bark!

Perhaps this could help someone. I don't know the internal function of these files but trashing my system configuration folder from my preferences and rebooting allowed Macbook OS 10.6 to recreate the system configuration folder. That solved my problem I obtained after installing Snow Leopard. SEE BELOW: You'll notice the original had 7 files and the new has only 6 files. "com.apple.boot.plist is removed. Perhaps this folder or file has been corrupted in different ways to create some of our problems. My problem was the inability to turn on my airport card inside my Macbook. I could never see the router because I could not turn on my airport card. I got this from Ferrethead who got it from an Apple tech. Came from another similar thread.

My original System preference folder:
SystemConfiguration

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.Boot.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
com.apple.smb.server.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist

My system preference folder as mac rebuilt it after trashing my original:
SystemConfiguration

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
com.apple.smb.server.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist

Same problems here... I have installed snow leopard on my mac pro and all is great but my internet connection dosen't work.
I have a d-link DSL-300T modem and the little snitch network monitor show me that the mDNSresponder process is active (red bars) and I am not to be able to navigate into my modem setup.
I don't know if this process is responsible, but...
I have test to initialize and start with a fresh install of snow leopard but the problem persist...
Now I have restored leopard with a time machine backup and the problem is gone

Any idea?

After installing Snow Leopard my internet has slowed down to nothing! Im not a technical wizz kid, i just want to use the internet as I was doing before... 'Safari can't find the server' is the message I keep getting! Its very annoying. Some pages open, but then you click on a link and it wont open, it takes too long!

WHATS GOING ON!!??!! It is driving me mad. So many kind people have made suggestion as to how to rectify the problem but none seem to work.

Is it possible to go back to the old operating system and use the same 10.6 disc at a later date when the issues have been sorted out?

Installation went great, but now the internet doesn't work
