Since you have computers that can access your NAS without issue, I would suggest that you try removing the password requirement to access the NAS shares.

Hi, thanks for the tip. Actually I already know that I can access the shares without a password. However, I'm on a shared network and I need to password protect the files for reasons of client confidentiality etc.

So simply removing passwords is not really an option... I hope this can be sorted soon!

I am having the same issue. I have a Ready NAS connected to my network via a D-Link router. An hour ago, I could connect just fine on my MacBook Pro from Leopard, but after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't connect any more. I get the message: "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “server name” can’t be found."

I tried looking at potential issues before upgrading, but didn't catch this MAJOR issue. All of my files are on the Ready NAS and I am now unable to access them on my MacBook Pro.

I am trying to follow some of the suggestions on these forums, but they are a bit over my head. So much for "it just works".

Hi there I am getting the same problem here from a MacBook Pro running 10.6 Snow Leopard and a Infrant (Netgear) ReadyNAS NV+ 4.1.6.

I can copy PDF WAV RTF files but not dmg files I get the error message "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."

However I am able to copy the dmg files if I connect via CIFS. However when initaly selecting the ReadyNAS via CIFS in the finder window I had to 'Connect As' I guess is because my Mac OS user and password are different to that of my NAS.

I've posted this response in another thread but thought I'll do it here too so others can find a quick resolution.

-------------------------
I had a similar problem with the DLink DNS323 after upgrading to Snow Leopard.

Resolution - just change any existing user password to just numeric. Not sure if upgrading the firmware is necessary but I did anyway just in case, to 1.07.
No need to use the 1.08beta firmware.

I'm having similar problems. First I noticed that my SMB network storage attached to my Fritz!Box 7141 suddenly is inaccessible. When trying to mount the volume, Finder tells me that my credentials were wrong, which is just not true. Later on it occured to me that I always was unable to mount a SMB share on a small embedded system I was working with before without problems. Also, I've got no more access to my SMB share on my Linux system.

What is wrong with Snow Leopard? Why the **** can't I connect to network shares using the simpliest protocol anymore? Does anybody have a universal solution? This seems to me like a major issue...

This is a serious issue that needs to be resolved. I can connect to some of my smb (from Linux hosts) shares but not some. Same message as everyone else gets.

Further when you try to manually mount the share you get the following:

sh-3.2# mount_smbfs //root@10.0.0.6/ShareName /Volumes/ShareName
Password:
mount_smbfs: mount error: /Volumes/ShareName: Authentication error

So something is wrong with the underlying authentication.

The solution is 10.6.1 !!!
It solves the SMB problem. Cool!

I can not confirm that 10.6.1 fixed the issue.

The SMB connect is still not working, if the user has a alphanumeric password.

However, the usage of a purely numeric password allows the connection.
Use in Finder the command:
smb://username:numericonlypassword@192.168.1.1/share

can not connect to NAS box(es)
