Hey spauldo:

I got my SL system(s) working last night, connected to my NAS boxes with out a problem. All I did was update my firmware on my NAS boxes and it was all good from there. In terms of your ReadyNAS box are you getting an invalid user and or password error message?

Let me know, when you get the chance.

Hey Kangcy:

Funny you ask, I just fixed that one this morning. The easiest but not the most stable solution right now for the DNS323 is using the 1.0.8 beta firmware. Which can be found by the following address "ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323" no username and password needed. Currently I am modifying my SMB.config file on SL I will post it if it works

Hey Kancy and Spauldo and others:

I just finished modifying my SMB.config (/etc/smb.config)file and now all SMB shares are working for my environment of operations. You can test this file for your environment if you want. If you want this file e-mail me at node927@live.com

Note: All mod's in the smb.config file are following Apple.Inc Universal standards and do not pertain to any other 3rd party affiliations, Just me! and happy to share.

Note: You as the user will have to mod. the file according to your computer name, workgroup, etc.

<----------------------Instructions------------------>
//Once obtaining the file, you the user will have to modify the following entries listed below.//

[global]--this is actually the [] keys--the site flagged it!
workgroup = workgroup
printer admin = @user, @staff
; Using the Computer Name to compute the NetBIOS name. Remove this comment to override netbios name = yourComputerName

//That's it...all custom entries are complete//

Hi,

I don't fully understand the post above about the config file. I believe I have the same problem and if someone could spell out rather more simply how to rectify it that would be great. I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I'm unable to access a ReadyNAS. It's a ReadyNAS NV+ using CIFS file system (which I believe is the same as SMB - is that right?). Anyway, as people have already mentioned, it works fine on Leopard (and XP etc) but not Snow Leopard. I've just updated the firmware but that has not helped.

If I try to access the NAS, Finder can see it in the 'Shared' section. It can also see the various 'Shares' within the NAS. However, if I try to access them it tells me 'The operation can't be completed because the original item for "XXX_share" can't be found. It tells me that I am connected as my user name rather than as 'guest'. If I try to disconnect/reconnect it does the same thing.

All thoughts/suggestions gratefully received!

Edward

Good morning Edward:

Try this for now, delete your keychain item that is stored for your NAS. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that you have checked remember my credentials in the pass or sometime, thats why you are automatically getting logged on. After deleting the keychain item try to connect in your finder=it should give you a connection failed, then connect as, and type your username and password (do not checked remember me / store in keychain). If you still get original item not found...let me know.

Off to work...I'll post back asap when I get the chance.

Hey Edward:

If you can see the ReadyNAS sharepoints, then advertising of shares are enabled (which is a good thing) If you can not auth. then I suggest that you double check your credentials on your NAS. Also what exactly is the error message that you are getting when trying to auth.

I know the password I'm using is correct (it's not changed and it all works correctly on a different computer running Leopard and also on a PC running XP). The error message exactly is "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "XXX_share" can't be found". Interestingly (and I should have noticed this before), I have one share without a password and this works fine - I can see the contents of the share correctly.

Any thoughts?

I had the same problem and was getting the same message after I had upgraded both my wife's and my iMacs to Snow Leopard. Since the NAS is no longer supported by the manufacturer, a firmware update is not an option.

I had the NAS set up to require passwords to access them. I went in with our laptop which is stuck on running Tiger and changed the NAS settings so no password is required. We are now able to access the shares on the NAS without a problem.

Since you have computers that can access your NAS without issue, I would suggest that you try removing the password requirement to access the NAS shares.

Hope that helps.
