HP Deskjet F300 Series listed as supported, Software Update doesn't find it

I have an HP Deskjet F300 Series which is listed by both Apple and HP as having supported drivers fro Snow Leopard. When I plug the printer into the USB, it ask if I want to install the driver, and when I click Install it brings up a window that says Software Update as the title and in the body says Finding software. A popup comes up that says:

*The software is currently unavailable.*

You can check for the software later by choosing Software Update from the Apple menu.

Actually I did solve this issue as suggested by others on this post by downloading from HP's web site the installation drivers for leopard 10.5 and I can print again. I will uninstall these drivers eventually later on when when they come out with the new version of the drivers. The good news is that I can print again; the not so good news, I feel that Apple should not brag of having better printing when it's been so far poor compatibility. I never had an issue with tiger or leopard. Too pressed for the hype of coming out before windows 7 which I feel is ridiculous.

Totally agree with gatebuster. Thats the only way it worked for me. downloading the previous version of the driver for my Hp F380 from the hp site.

For those who are having problems with the HP Deskjet F300 series: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-55820-2 &lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=219&product=1128296

Temporary solution which works just fine.

As you may have known, the driver for F300 series has been released officially by HP. But I found the automatically update is not working probably. So I downloaded the package from HP directly (link below) and installed. I haven't checked all functions, but at least the printing is working!

Yes but, the F300 driver is "printing only software". I installed it and could not scan anything (ie even via preview or image capture). I then had to reinstall the older software again and now can print and scan without any problems. A key ( I think?) seems to be ticking the "Open using Rosetta" box in the "HP Device Manager", "get info" pane. I had gotten to that point a few days ago but tried to "fix" it by trusting the newer HP driver.
I was perfectly happy with the old mac operating system too, I just got sucked into the "must have the latest" mindset, it was not broken either but I tried to "fix" it anyway.
++Getting older is easy, getting wiser seems to be the challenging bit!+

Well, against the guidance of my "inner compass", and with great reluctance, I did the software update (accepting both the OSX and the HP options) as you suggested, and ....... it works!
Not sure what the lesson of life is here William, but thanks for the tip.
+I absolutely positively will not ever again fix something that is not broken, to the point of it having been reduced to smouldering pile of ash!+

Yeah, install the drivers from HP, you'll be able to print at least.

Unfortunately, scanning was very important to me. SL has been out for a while now, and still no driver. And 10.6.2 Didn't fix the issue either.
I shouldn't have to go out and buy a new printer because support for mine was dropped. It might be an older model, but I'd like to point out that my MacBook is just as old.
