We're very disappointed with the way 10.6 has worked out in our office. We have an HP Laserjet connected to our Airport Extreme router, and none of our three office computers can find it on the network. We also have an HP Deskjet 4180 printer/scanner connected to our main computer (a USB connection) and that won't work either because the HP printer software keeps crashing. Now we're faced with having no printers tomorrow -- very bad news indeed. How could Apple release this update without getting it right? Is it possible to somehow uninstall 10.6?
Got it to work with 10.6 driver and a purchase of an airport express.
Deleted all drivers for printers, downloaded the 10.6 driver from HP, had to mung around with the bonjour settings for the AP Express, then loaded the new driver.
All is well in the print world. Now to tackle wireless scanning....
I'm afraid I have some more bad news for you. When plugged into the USB port on an Airport base station (Express/Extreme/TimeCapsule) the device only support print functionality. This is due to a limitation in the Airport, not the drivers for your device. So I am happy you have printing working now, but until Apple changes the Airport it will be a bit of a problem to get that wireless scanning working.
Now if only everyone with older Airports would upgrade to an N version with 7.4.2 firmware like you did, these support forums would be a lot more quite.
Looking forward to the follow-on firmware upgrade that allows scanning...I even followed an HP article and added some UDP and TCP ports to my router to see if that broke things open.
I just hope my printer doesn't fall off the compatibility list before a driver or firmware upgrade.
I really need to know more about how your 5MP is connected to the Mac? Please include every cable and/or device in between the LaserJet 5MP and your Mac and I'll see what I can do to point you in the right direction.
Also if it shows offline all the time, how were you able to create the print queue?
What that means is that the computer doesn't think the printer is plugged into the USB port. My guess is your best bet to get this working is to hang the 5MP off of a USB port on an Airport base station (preferably one running the 7.4.2 firmware). While some users have reported getting this working directly via USB, others have not. I have heard no problems getting it running while plugged into the USB port on an Airport.
Printing works fine but there is no scan function anymore. According to the HP compatibility chart scanning was supposed to be functional. Any idea what is happening?
I seem to be in the same boat, but I haven't really seen my issue addressed. I have an HP 3050 multi-function. My problem is that the printer is recognized, but it doesn't print. When I go to the printer que the printer is paused. When I un-pause the printer, it immediately re-pauses itself. I have deleted the que and the printer from the print & fax preferences, installed the updates, but the problem persists.
The HP software that came with the printer does not even recognize that the printer is there.
I hope they are not discontinuing support for this printer. Just bought it last year.
All, first the F300 series now has a full installer available. Full details are available in [this|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10318028#10318028] post.
As for Scanning, in addition to HP Scan in the full installer, you should be able to Scan through Preview, Image Capture, the Print & Fax system preference, and your printer browser. To documents containing some information are on [Apple.com|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3771] and [HP.com|http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&lc=en&dlc =en&cc=us&lang=en&os=219&product=1128298].
Your case is a little different. You have an HP LaerJet 3050 All-in-One. I assume your device is connected via USB directly to your Mac. If so, have you tried the solution in [this|http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=10289447] post? If it doesn't work feel free to post back and I'll see what I can do.
RE: "I have some bad news for you. Neither of those products (the Color LaserJet 1500L or the Officejet 7110) made the transition to Intel. We dropped support for them with Tiger for Intel. They were not supported under Leopard, and will not be supported under Snow Leopard."
Well, all is not lost. I was able to move the Color LaserJet 1500L to my wife's Windows XP computer, and take her HP Color LaserJet 2605dn printer in exchange, which is supported under Snow Leopard. Also, the last version of the Officejet 7110 software (7100
731EN.dmg) almost works 100% under Snow Leopard, at least for the functions that I've used so far (printing and scanning). It crashes when I scan to a file and try and change the default name in the "Save" dialog box to something meaningful, so I just let it create the name "default" and then rename it from the Finder later on. Other than that, it seems to work.
Hi I am a long time after some posts here but I have issues with 10.6 and a driver for my HP 9300 - it will print A4 with the Gutenprint 5.2.3 that is included in 10.6 but this will not print A3 - it says it will but it won't! (so a lot of wasted paper). It does print A4, though the quality is rather poor (much worse than with HP drivers).
Is there any hope of a fix here? This has been a workhorse A3 printer and I can find no way in any app to force A3 printing (it just prints an A4 page on A3 paper).
OK - for the benefit of anyone else with this problem - from the GutenPrint forums it appears that there is no >A4 coverage in Gutenprint 5.2.3 (or -4) for this printer. But there is another hpijs driver set available from:-
