Sep 30, 2009 5:15 AM in response to Penigmaby Basil Gloo, just don't understand why somebody from Apple not talking something concerning this issue... -
Oct 2, 2009 1:55 AM in response to J Elmby TJ&P,I have no doubt that this problem is caused by dodgy DVD's. I have had problems installing on my early Macbook and went through 2 DVDs from the same retailer (probably the same batch) and had a range of problems including the dirty disk message, the 'OSProductManagerDomain error 100' message, and various unexplained quits. I then called Apple and as soon as I mentioned the 'OSProductManagerDomain error 100' message he immediately identified it as a disk problem and sent out a new one (which is now working perfectly).
My belief is that the when these dubious disks are combined with DVD drives that aren't perfectly set up the problem arises. This is why some disks will work on some computers and not on others (where there may be some minor misalignment or dirt). Also some of the fixes that have worked may simply be that the DVD drive got jiggled and dislodged dirt or bumped the alignment.
Anyway call Apple even if your Mac is not under warranty because you get 90 days for your Snow Leopard purchase.
Cheers,

Oct 16, 2009 5:55 AM in response to J Elmby KevinGD,I had a decent phone discussion with a gal in Manila, and it seemed the issue was the DVD drive, so I made an appointment with the local genius bar. Ends up it had more to do with the SL DVD and they installed the SL upgrade there, told me to call applecare. Talked to Sasheen in India and Apple will be sending me another DVD as a replacement backup in case I need it for a reboot at some, hopefully unlikely, time in the future.
I didn't find the insert/eject option to be very viable as the DVD would lock up my iMac for a good ten minutes when inserted. I had stuck the nozzle of compressed air in all the ports and recesses in the hope of dislodging the suspect grain of dirt, but that didn't help. I kind of wonder if boxing the computer and driving it to the genius bar didn't kind of jiggle things right.
Ahhh, computers, taking us back to the good ol' days of superstition, curses and heathen rituals at the same time of providing a wonderful resource of reason and logic, ha! A perverse balance. -
Oct 22, 2009 8:58 PM in response to J Elmby smashart,I'm getting the same error, it's intermittent & unpredictable. The only predictable thing is, in the 4 times I've tried to install Snow Leopard I get an error of one kind or another. The most recent is "OSProductManagerDomain error 100"
I'm concerned that installing from another computer will affect the permissions on the target computer. I've suspected it's the DVD player, as I often get errors with Netflix movies that play fin on other computers.
My question is, can I install Snow Leopard from a different computer and my main computer as a target/firewire drive without creating any permission issues, as the source computer is a different user? -
Nov 16, 2009 12:40 PM in response to smashartby Ryan Buschmeyer,You are probably better off booting the OTHER system into Target mode & using the DVD on the remote machine. Then you can use the Boot Picker to boot from the remote DVD drive...
