huawei e160 not working in 10.6

I have installed snow leopard and my huawei e160 modem has stopped working. I have been using the vendor software to reinstall. Would it be better to reinstall the driver and setup manually? I need internet access on the go for work.

Just like you guys my HUWAEI E160 would not work under snow leopard, the app just kept crashing.

HOWEVER I NOW HAVE IT WORKING.

The solution is:

Plug in the device, when the disk image mounts, right click on the app and choose 'show package contents'

Navigate through contents -> resources -> and run the Mobile Connect_DrvApp.pkg

Reboot

Then in system prefs -> network

you will see HUAWEI Mobile (not connected)

Fire in the following settings

telephone number *99#
account name o2bb
password password

and all should now be working 🙂

Hi,

Thanks for posting.

I have the exact same problem - I can't connect (and the Mac can't see the USB modem).

I am using a Huawei E1550 modem and have tried following your description - but the result is the same; the Huawei Modem does not show up in the network settings a possible profile.

I have tried reinstalling and restarting several times but the result is the same.

When I start the Mobile Partner software (11.302.04) I get an error the the modem can't be found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Any suggestions on what to do to be able to see and select the modem in the left side of network settings?

Best regards,
fbrose

I agree, I was having the exact same problems with my E160. You just need to bypass any vendor software (in my case it's Virgin Mobile Home) and just make sure you have the following settings in Network settings in System Prefs:

Make sure your device is added as Huawei Mobile,

Telephone Number: *99#
Leave account name and password blank.

Go to advanced:
Change Vendor to Other
Model: Huawei Mobile Connect - 3G Modem
Dial mode: Ignore dial tone when dialing

Don't attempt to launch any vendor software, in many cases it just gives a spinning beach ball of death, or at worst produces a kernel panic.

Hope this helps, it might not work for everyone!

Guys...I have a Huawei datacard co-branded TIM (Italian Mobile operator) model E1692. When I installed 10.6 it was working, but after a while I received a message error "Failed to find the device". I installed and unistalled the software thousends of times but with no good results. I've also tried to install the driver only without the TIM's software but nothing...
I was wondering how to be sure I completly unistall the driver...I did that by running the unistall program but I'm not sure it has deleted everything.
I've read above the problem could be a kind of conflict caused by the 64 bit...is there any way of running this driver at 32bit?

Many thanks!

I follow this produce. I use a Huawai E160E

I get a error evertime the Huawai E160e want to connect.

Using the settings from windows (APN=event.vodafone.de DNS=139.007.030.125+6, Username and Password blank) brings no change.

Using Vendor other and Modell Huawai Mobile Connect 3G Modem brings no change.

My Provider is Vodafone Germany.

I have an earlier model the e220 however the huwaii drivers are generic and not model specific.

I just installed the driver. The apn was already set within the device.

went to network prefs, plugged in the modem it was detected. I setup a new network location.

created a configuration called it "t-mobile'

telephone number •99#
account name 'blank'
password 'blank'

click on advanced --> modem tab
Vendor: other
Model : Huawei Mobile Connect -3G modem

left everything else as default

finally checked 'show modem status in menu bar'

then apply

I then went to the modem icon in the menubar and connected,

It worked first time and is reliable.
