Sounds like Snow Leopard is a major disaster

I want to add my name to the list of VERY satisfied SL installers. 45 min and I was up and running. Installing Rosetta only took seconds and every application I have works flawlessly. It automatically installed drivers for the printers I connect to. There's a very noticeable increase in speed in opening applications and files. The icing on the cake is that it freed up 12GB of HD space, not the 6GB promised. I don't know where all this extra space came from, but I'm not complaining.

.. my installation SL was flawless.. peripheral applications like Time Capsule restarted where it left off under 10.6 without a hitch.. actually, Time Capsule is running faster now.. iTunes is sync'ing with Apple TV and iPhone.. my Verizon AirCard even works.. lastly, my HP All-in-one 7210 printer runs as expected.

During the installation process 10.6 discovered that my Symantec Anti-Virus was incompatible with 10.6 (Symantec is always late with support).. it created a folder and placed the Symantec plist in it.. i ran Symantec LiveUpdate, and now it works! Go figure!

Transmission 1.74 works fine. It was updated earlier this week.

Very satisfied here with SL on my Intel iMac. Took roughly 40 minutes. One issue with a missing printer driver but new one installed with no problems and Aperture found it immediately. I note that display gamma default has changed to 2.2. I had another issue with Super Duper! but that was my own fault. SD! tried to Smart Update my 10.5.8 backup .....

I, too, had a nearly trouble-free upgrade. 45 minutes from start to finish and most everything was fine after the upgrade. There are couple of things I do before diving into these updates that I believe save headaches: 1) update all the software and drivers on the machine to the latest version before starting the OS update and 2) make sure there's a good TM backup.

And be prepared to re-install the odd application after the update. This time the Cisco VPN client needed a reinstall before it would work - but if you're prepared for this kind of thing, it takes 5 minutes to resolve. The VPN client (which may, after all, be unnecessary) was the only unexpected thing I encountered, so for an OS upgrade, I count it a success.

The other thing worth remembering is that nobody has a gun to your head to update to the latest, greatest. For critical machines, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. When doing an upgrade is a pleasant experiment rather than a leap off a cliff, things seem to go so much better.

You obviously haven't been around very long. With every OS upgrade some people have trouble and there are lots of reasons. A couple upgrades ago a woman came into our store Monday afternoon demanding a refund and threatening to sue Apple. In the middle of the installation her battery ran out of juice - yep she ignored the warning dialog and was installing OS X on battery - and now her computer wouldn't start. That's the most extreme story I can remember - but the fact is people do goofy things which accounts for some failures. One of the more typical stories is the one where people install the OS on a computer that has been having issues thinking the new OS will solve them. Well, that may be the case but more often they now have a new OS with problems.

Anyway, this forum is a hospital for people with Mac problems so that's what we see. Hundreds of thousands of people have already installed SL by now I'm quite sure and only a small percentage will have any trouble. SL is not a disaster, major or otherwise.

Five machines here, no problems. All printers and scanners work (even the wireless photo printer using an airport express). No application issues. Ahhhh....

Let's not blow things out of proportion here now. The people who are not having a problem tend no to read nor post in forums like this. I, however, have had no issues at all with my SL installation and everything is running fine.

Sure there are problems, there are bound to be with any OS upgrade from any company but it is not fair to call it a disaster.

No issues with the upgrade. Fast and friendly, just as I expect the mac to be.
Only issue is with the software from Vodafone Mobile Connect. Doesn't work !!!
Will try other internet settings and hope all is well.

Adding my experience I too had a great installation experience, installed it on my three machines, even my Tiger, and all worked great. The only hick-up I had was with a third-party app that I was able to figure out on my own and solve without having to contact Apple. Coming from the Microsoft side when I upgraded then I had loads of problems and always had to call support but with Apple, like they say, it was easy enough to figure out on my own.
I love my computer even more and I am happy I paid the $49 for the family upgrade and so is my family!

Oh one more miraculous thing happened. My wireless Apple mouse wasn't working correctly on my computer running Leopard and after I installed SL it now works brilliantly!! Don't know if it was the upgrade or the mouse but it works now and I am doubly happy!

My SL installation was the most painlessly smooth OS upgrade ever. Everything is faster -- especially Safari.

Flip4Mac doesn't work but that's Flip4Mac's fault.
