New OS and OKI Data printers

Just incase someone is looking for the drivers for the latest oKI Data printers for Snow Leopard, there are none. I have an OKI Data 5150N and tried the all of the drivers available from OKI Data and none work. I also tried "Generic PCL" and "Postscript" with no success. I sent an EMAIL to OKI Data support and they said that they don't have the drivers for Snow Leopard BUT they should be available "soon".

IMAC 24" 3.06 GHz 4 GB, Mac OS X (10.5.5), G Tech Q Drive, G Tech G Drive, 3 USB Hubs, USB to Serial Adapter.

Sorry, Botts.

Just caught your message. I see you're up an running, so congratulations!!

To answer your question anyway, yes, I just downloaded and reinstalled 10.5. During the process of installing a new printer I had to fish around with "More" printers for a minute, but the newly installed 10.5 driver popped up and a couple clicks later it was all good.

I'm keeping my eyes on the Oki site for when they make an official 10.6 driver.

On another thread someone posted a solution for the 6150 PS drivers rather than having to use the Generic Postscript driver. It seems there is a permissions problem that can be fixed using terminal. I tried it and am now using the Okidata 6150 PS drivers.

Well I got my 5150N working last night.

I have been reading in this thread about using the TCP/IP driver for printing. I didn't think my printer had a TCP/IP connection. Since I have had the printer, about 3 years, I have always used the USB port. I got the manual for the printer out and found it did indeed have a TCP/IP port.

The only other problem I thought I might have is my wireless router says nothing about using prints on it. I have 4 hard wire jacks on the router. Well I said I might as well try it. And success! In fact I got my old Windows machine and my Windows laptop to all print.

In the end I gained more.

Thanks for the help.

If you wouldn't mind sharing some info with us 5150N sufferers did you lose any options?
Such as color selections or tray selections?

Thanks

This problem is very strange. I have a Mac Pro 1.1 model running Snow Leopard and I was able to install my Oki C5200n network printer fine with no problem. On my wife's iMac 7.1, which is a much newer machine, no such look. Under Snow Leopard her computer does not see the Oki printer drivers; it just says "printer drivers not installed". I went back and reinstalled the old 10.5 printer drivers on her computer and the same thing - "printer drivers not installed". I should note that when both computers were on Leopard both computers printed fine to the C5200n. Only the newer iMac is now not detecting any printer drivers installed even though they are. I have tried setting up as IPP, using Bonjour, and using the generic post script driver - nothing works. I have literally tried every possible combination available using the Gutenprint printer drivers that came with Snow Leopard and nothing works. The only thing that works for her machine is for her to print using printer sharing connected to my Mac Pro. We've sent e-mails to Oki asking for help or a date when drivers will be available and we have received no response. This is really unacceptable.

OK, I got my iMac printing to my Oki C5200n on a wireless network. Here's how:

To begin with I contacted Oki Support and told them my problem how that even Leopard drivers would not show up on the iMac after installing them. All I got was a "printer driver missing" message. They sent to me via e-mail a European printer driver for the C5650n and was told that they'd had success with this driver for printers connected to networks.

I installed the driver on the iMac (it is a 10.5 Leopard driver) and sure enough, it finally appeared in the install dialog box so I could continue the installation. Here are the steps:

1. Installed driver C5600 C5800 (Mac OS X) Leopard. The name of the dmg file that was sent to me is C5680allosx230_tcm3-67845.dmg. Perhaps you can search for that driver on Oki's website. It is supposedly a European driver but the language is all in English.

2. Select Add Printer - Default - and then click on "More printers" button at the bottom left.

3. There should be two printers listed: C5600 and C5800 installed. I selected Oki/TCP IP drop down selection and then I selected the C5600 driver in the window below and then typed in the IP address for the neworked printer and then clicked the "add" button.

I was then able to print wirelessly from the iMac to the printer. I did not check to see if all of the functions and settings were available but I can say that printer operations have been restored so that solves my immediate problem for now. Hope someone finds this information useful. Good luck.

I didn't loose any options that I have used in the past. Works great with Safari, Microsoft Word and Excel and my Nikon camera software.

As for the tray selections I have never selected paper trays via the software. I have selected different paper stock though and still have that option, 8.5x11, 8.5x14 and legal size envelops.

I've got an Oki C9600 with a really interesting problem.

On my Pro that I upgraded to SL, the original driver works fine.
On my new Pro with a clean install, I try to install it ... the driver looks good going in, then when trying to access it in the Printers pane of system preferences, it says that "the software was not installed correctly."

Hack question: Does anyone know which files and from where I need to copy from my upgraded SL box to my clean-copy box? I think I can work around that. I also have a printer rep that is trying to find me someone smart at Oki directly that I can talk to ... if we actually find someone I'll point him in this direction.
