Juniper Java Secure Application Manager does not work with Snow Leopard

Anyone else having issues as well? I'm not using a client - its basically the Java based application manager for VPN connections to work (so I can remote desktop to my work PC).

Once logged in, it gives a "Restart your browser" error.

Thanks for your help

I have the same issue. My theory right now is that Juniper requires java 1.5 and SL only includes java 1.6. I tried launching it in Omniweb, which I think is still 32 bit and I had 32bit java listed first in the java preferences, still failed. The Juniper KB page for Secure Manager lists it as requiring java 1.5

I have seen some other posts regarding copying over java 1.5 from a Leopard backup but I'm a bit hesitant to try that, not sure what other problems that could cause. I plan to have the network support guy at work contact Juniper to see if there is a workaround .

Having same issue at our company,

I was able to copy the Leopard version of Java 1.5 (note) when it is unzipped it is called, 1.5.0 (not 1.5.0-leopard).

Did the ln cmd line stuff, set Java prefs to use Java 1.5, can even do a Java -version in the terminal, and it shows, Java 1.5.

I get a "Network Connect cannot establish a secure connection", message.

So it does not work, period!

We have a support ticket open with Juniper themselves, they say they did not address Snow Leopard compatibility until Network Connect version 6.5

So the skinny is Do Not Waste Anymore time on this, you have to get version 6.5.

So we all need Network Connect version 6.5, and your company will not get it until your Juniper admin, runs a scheduled update,

Ours is not getting updated until next week.

So no Snow Leopard for people who really, really need the Juniper VPN at our company until sometime next week

OK - so I got it to work. Here's what I did. Let me know if it works for you:

I wasn't able to follow the instructions exactly as noted in the original link I posted above.
The terminal command, specifically wget would not work - there is no wget.

I manually downloaded the Java 1.5 version, by following the link (just clicked on it). I 'unzipped' it and moved it into the library/frameworks/JavaVM.framework/versions folder.

So now the 1.5.0 is not an alias (as it is by default in SL), but the older version of Java.

I then followed the instruction related to changing the order in JAVA PREFERENCES.

The final stop - and I think this is key, is that I forced Safari to start in 32 bit mode. You can do this by going to Applications, highlighting Safari and hitting CMD-I. Then check the 32 bit option.

Start Safari, go to the appropriate URL and login. The Java Secure Application Manager should then start as it used to do in Leopard. You should be all set.

Hope this helps - let me know if someone has questions.

Hi there,

I followed all the instructions and got it to work once. Now I am trying again but end up with the old error ("Could not start Java Secure Application Manager..."). I have put the Java preferences in the right order, which makes no difference. I am trying to connect with an external network, but Citrix just won't start.
Any suggestions for help?
