Energy Saver Options

When I click on the battery icon in the menu bar it seems to be missing some of the options that were there in Leopard. There used to be an option called custom, and two others whose name I forget right now. The point is you could choose from three different power settings without going into system preferences. Is there some way to turn these on again that I have not found?
Thanks for any help.

The Energy Profiles are really gone from the Battery Menubar item and the preferences! Something like this happened in 10.5.6 IIRC and was fixed again in 10.5.7. The Menubar item was also the only way for "Standard" (restricted) users to change the Energy Settings.

Instead of taking all the profiles away, they should offer MORE (custom and maybe user-renameable) profiles...

Thank you Apple, you killed one of the most useful features of Mac OS X.
And I think many people want it back. Without this, Snow Leopard is IMO much less useful for mobile computers. For me, UNUSABLE.

It seems that the Sleep menu command either puts the computer into a sleep mode or hibernate mode depending upon whether the Mac is plugged in to an electrical outlet. At least, that is my observation using my MacBook Pro, which is the last model issued before the unibody models.

It's a tolerable work-around while waiting for the power profiles that existed in Leopard to be restored.

Just adding a 'me too' to this one. There are at least three other threads with the same complaint:

It was particularly useful when giving presentations or downloading a file to be able to quickly and easily select a 'custom' option that did not allow the computer to sleep. Now the only way is to go through the full system prefs menu (which requires a password if you have followed the general advice not to work in an admin. account).
I'm surprised that it was not rectified in the recent 10.6.1 upgrade. Could it have something to do with increased security in Snow Leopard?

If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Apple Developer Connection ( ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

There's no benefit complaining here, since these are user-to-user forums and most likely anyone from Apple who visits here won't respond to your pleas. Do it the right way.
