AAF file open in FCP?

I have a project edited in Sony Vegas 6.0 which I would like to carry over to FCP 4.5 to finish off.
Can FCP open/import AAF (advanced authoring format) files?

I have visited the AAF website which mentions Apple as a member, and I have heard through the grapevine that FCP supports AAF... but I am unable to get my FCP HD4.5 to detect the AAF file I have saved from Vegas.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? or any suggestions on a workaround other than EDLs?

Thanks
Nelly

Hi Dave- I'm having a similar situation, except I'm trying to import an AAF file created in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. I downloaded the import utility listed above and I'm getting some weird issues. The clips go into the timeline fine as offline files, however none of the media shows up in the Browser. Not a big deal- I just select all of the clips in the timeline and do a "Reconnect Media" command and browse to the Hi Rez clips. The media now shows up correctly, however A1 and A2 are both playing the right audio channel from the original stereo DV clip. I can't seem to figure out how to import the left audio channel. If I just import the original clip directly into the Browser, FCP handles the right and left channels with no problem- I just have an issue importing it using the AAF plug in. I contacted the support team at Automatic Duck and they do not offer support for this plugin any longer, although they have given me a couple things to try- none of which has been successful. Has anyone else seen this issue? IS there anyway to get a project from Premiere Pro into FCP? I've tried the EDL export from Premiere Pro, and that doesn't work well. You're limited to 1 channel of audio and 2 stereo tracks for starters, but the real deal killer for EDL import into FCP is that the in and out points I selected for specific clips on the timeline gets blown away when I import into FCP. The timeline looks right, it's just that each clip starts at the beginning of the media instead of starting from the in point I selected in Premiere. Anyone have any ideas? This is a real stumbling block for us.

Wes,

You and I have actually communicated a couple times over the last 2 days via your tech support email system about this issue. I'd be happy to purchase something to make this conversion happen, but the test FCP 4.5 file you sent me yesterday still had the audio issue where the right channel was duplicated in A1 and A2. Was that file created by the new Pro Import FCP plugin?

Oh, and thanks for the unsolicited grammatical advice, X.

I created that project with a build of a future version of our Pro Import FCP plug-in, the same build that was demonstrated at IBC in the AAF booth. I can't say yet why the results aren't as you wanted, it could very be on the Premiere end, but we'll look into it.

Eventually, though hopefully not too far away, we plan to solve the Premiere to FCP problem our own way, a way that works better than you've so far seen.
