Re: Rendering

Just install FCP on a new G5. Having problems rendering effects and graphics. Text or effect pixelates and shifts after render. I noticed the render settings are quite different from the earlier versions I've used. Any suggestions. I've dumped the preferences and used the easy set up again for DV NTSC. Any suggestions

I've noticed the pixelation while my clips (FCP5 text effect) on the timeline have a "full" playback status. When I render the sequence it goes away.

BUT . . .

The rendered clips (with FCP5 text effect AND cross dissolves) now playback with a slight "jitter like" pixel shifting. What is going on? These are basic built-in editing functions that do not seem to work properly!

I've tried several configuration tests using Final Cut Studio (FCP5 v5.02; Quicktime 7.0.2)

1. Sequence settings - lower, upper, and none
2. Sequence settings - Video Processing - motion filtering quality - Best, Normal, and Fastest
3. Filters - Flicker, De-Interlace
4. Easy Set Up Presets - DV NTSC / DV NTSC (anamorphic)
5. Trashed FCP5 Preference file.
6. Restarting FCP5.
7. Rebooting the machine.

Has anyone else experienced and/or resolved this issue?

Thanks

Hello rh,

It is static (placed in the upper right of frame) text over moving video.

I see it happening on my Broadcast NTSC monitor but only after rendering.

It is driving me nuts and I wish I knew what was happening. My current project needs to be completed the end of this week. I'm afraid to deliver a video production with "jittery like" text displays and dissolves.

Any Ideas?

Just Installed FCP 5 and Yes, I am have the exact same issue. The project was started in FCP 4.5 and updated to FCP 5, opened the project and all my cross dissolves have the "Jitter" you explain. Created a new project (a completely FCP 5 Project) to see if the issue was in the Upgrade and the same thing happened. Using the Opacity Tab to create dissolves and it works fine, but that is a work around I don't want to use. Any Help?

Yes, I am also having the glitchy pixel-shift problem. I've got some Live video on screen in small boxes, mixed with some some stills. There are dissolves on my clips (in and out), and when the dissolves are occuring everything plays fine and smooth, and the render bar above is grey as it should be. As soon as the dissolve finishes, the shift occurs and everything gets jaggy, with the light green render bar above.

When I select the green "preview" bar in the render controls menu (Under "Sequence), it renders everything and gets rid of the green render bar, but then everything is jaggy throughout, meaning I don't even get that moment of smooth reprive when the dissolves are occurring.

I'd love to know if anyone has come up with a fix for this. I just started looking into it now, so maybe I'll figure out in a reasonable time frame. It doesn't look like there are any posts explaining what's going on, so if I come up with anything I'll post my findings.

Thanks,
Joni

I just read your post. I hope you have had success because I havnt ever since I upgraded to FCPHD. My problem is the similar. I have moving text and slow motion video on the same time line and one or the other is jittery. If field dom
is on none the text is smooth but effect suck.If field dom is lower text *****
and effects good. Upper dom text ***** and effects are ok.
If you have found an answer to this problem by know please let me know?

I think the original topic of this post has become skewed.

I (as well as what I gathered from Jeffrey Moffit, Devin Terpstra, and Bmonster's posts) am not having any trouble with crips text, or effects on text. Ours is trouble with transitions affecting the quality of the video and/or text in the sequence.

The problem is a strange slight "jitter like" shift during playback, for the duration of the transition (in my case it doesn't matter what transition is used- dissolve or otherwise).

The image/text onscreen shifts in position very slightly, and also becomes jaggy for the duration of the transition. It happens on the external monitor and when the sequence is output to tape.

It's difficult to explain, but...picture a black screen with one box of video (say 30% scale) in the upper left corner, playing fine. After about 5 seconds another box of video dissolves up into the bottom right corner. The dissolve is 1 second long, and while it occurs the video box in the upper right does the shifty thing. Once the dissolve ends, the video box resumes it's normal position, and the jaggy pixelation goes away.

The problem isn't affected by altering the Field Dominance settings.

As Devin said, when using the using the Opacity Tab to create the dissolve, the problem doesn't occur, but that doesn't help those who are using transitions aside from the standard dissolve.

Is it possible some of us received versions of FCP 5 with corrupt transitions? I've tried reinstalling to no avail.

What do you think?

Thanks a lot,
Joni

Okay, glad we got THAT taken care of.

This indicates your rendering or RT settings are off but I haven't followed this entire thread, sorry if you've already covered that detail. There have been so many threads like this one and they've all come down to incorrect user or system settings for the sequence or for playback.

Nope.

Yes, only in the rarest cases does a reinstall do anything except waste your time. This isn't Windows.
