Ok, I've been panicking for a few days as I got the SL disk and was ready to upgrade... you see I'm a professional screenwriter and use the program Final Draft 7. I am happy with v.7, Final Draft has come out recently with v.8 but there is absolutely no reason for me to upgrade -- until... I went to the snowleopard.wikidot.com sight and right there it says: Final Draft 7 -- WILL REQUIRE ROSETTA... so before I installed SL I almost bought the $100 Final Draft upgrade (The full program costs (about $300)several times but held back. Last night I upgrade my Macs to SL, and Final Draft 7 WORKS beautifully, WITHOUT Rosetta. I will be registering on the wiki sight to make this correction, but my hunch is that in my opinion that sight is now unreliable, or even suspect for software companies (Final Draft?) to put that a program is not compatible so you upgrade to the newer version. But the moral of this tale is, don;t just take that info as Gospel, especially the less popular apps... Final Draft 7 IN NO WAY requires Rosetta... now I gotta get back to writing 🙂

When you do a full install of SL, Rosetta is installed, so it is possible that your copy of Final Draft 7 is actually running under Rosetta. It is also possible that you have a Universal Binary of Final Draft 7, which wouldn't require Rosetta. Finally, the intel binaries of some universal binary programs are quirky under Snow Leopard. In order to avoid the gotchas, some have resorted to running the PPC version under Rosetta (or in some cases, forcing the program to load 32-bit binaries of the intel version).

In general, Wikidiot will post notices even if only a few people are experiencing difficulties. For example, many people are able to run Adobe CS3 with no difficulty, while a few run into problems because of specific pluggins or scripts.

Well, it doesn't seem that way... as my system keeps asking me if I wanna install it when I try to launch an app that would require it. Although my app Final Draft 7 is listed here: snowleopard.wikidot.com as requiring Rosetta I am certain that the info contained on this site, for this specific app is incorrect. So maybe others should be cautious about what apps work and don;t work on Snow Leopard.

I do have a hunch that Rosetta is installed as a dormant package, and if you say 'ok' when it tells you you need Rosetta to run an app and do you wanna install it, it will install it WITHOUT the need to re inserting the SL disk. I haven;t tried this but it;s just a hunch. So maybe this is the confusion about whether Rosetta is installed or not by default. Maybe it's in the system, but has not actually been installed yet. Anyone?

Excuse me for being well, confused and fluent in the English language. "UNKNOWN" and "WILL... Require Rosetta" makes no sense. It should say "MAY/MIGHT/COULD... Require Rosetta." Unknown and Will should never be in that same area. It almost cost me $100.

I am going on the record: FINAL DRAFT 7 DOES NOT REQUIRE ROSETTA... and that my is not an UNKNOWN.
