I'm right there with you. Not only is arabesque slow, it displayed black only a few seconds after starting, then 5 minutes later began displaying with large artifacts, big black squares with no gradation (very un-arabesque).
The artifacts is what is interesting to me here.
Ever since upgrading, iPhoto in both windowed and full screen editing modes as never displayed a clean clear photo. Every picture comes with a random display of artifacts. It's almost as if I can see the software computations as I draw the sliders left to right. These artifacts do not remain if I export the pictures though.
This also has happened when applying the motion blur filter in iMovie '08. Unfortunately, these artifacts seem to be written across and into the video in the same direction as the motion blur.
And further to these graphic problems, Front Row displays movies choppy and often with the audio out of sync.
